[courier-users] How to identify mails sent to an alias

Hello,

I use lot of aliases going to the same "real" mailbox. I use these
aliases to register on different websites. My goal is to identify where
my email has been stolen / given
But... I have a problem.

I sent me a mail to grosbill hebergement-pro.org: # echo coucou |
nail grosbill@hebergement-pro.org
It should go to jerome hebergement-pro.org:

When I'm in To: or Cc: Field, it's OK, I can identify which alias has
been used.
But How to identify which alias has been used when sent in Bcc: ?

[courier-users] SPF oddity

[courier-users] Maildrop + sendmail

Hi all,

I'm new to maildrop.
I'm trying to use maildrop as MDA with sendmail, but I'm facing some
troubles.
That is, since some of my local users don't have a defined home
dir, when maildrop is set to delivery mode (-d $u) in sendmail.cf, as
shown in sendmail docs:

FEATURE(`local_procmail', `/usr/local/bin/maildrop', `maildrop -d $u')

the following message starts to show:

Aug 15 11:43:25 host1 maildrop[75586]: Unable to change to home directory.

If, on the other hand, I set it in sendmail as in manual mode:

FEATURE(`local_procmail', `/usr/local/bin/maildrop', `maildrop
/usr/local/etc/maildroprc')

The maildrop processes start to grow, and the following message starts
to show:

It seems that no message body is sent to maildrop.
Does any of you have successfully configured maildrop+sendmail in an
scenario like that?

WHY does "host" get a correct reverse lookup, while "dig" not?
It seems, this is probably the same error as in "courier"

And of course, the message from the cronjob is lost in nirvana.

Any ideas?

Realy wierd, since it was working and it does not more work from one day
to another.

[courier-users] Courier modified messages (non-encoded 8-bit messages)

Hello,

Since I have installed Debian/Etch for my servers, I receive every time
courier messages which has the original messages as an attachment.

This behaviour is described in the FAQ under

Q: Courier delivers ESMTP mail with a strange error message:

The problem which are send are coming from cron and several programs
scripts which can not handel mime at all. So any output of those
programs are mailed by cron as it is...

"äöüß" will triger those messages from "courier-mta"

From the FAQ:

"Solution: for now, manually edit SubmitFile::MessageEnd() in
courier/submit2.C, and remove the code that reports both 8-bit related
errors, RFC2045_ERR8BITHEADER and RFC2045_ERR8BITCONTENT (the first and
the third error message)."

Question: Is there a possibility to prevent "courier-mta" to envelope
such messages and send it anyway WITHOUT recompiling courier?
or is it planed to make this configurable?

Please note: I need ONLY "RFC2045_ERR8BITCONTENT" to be modified or
configurable.

I have running each night an archiver which archives my old messages

on its own physical location...

[courier-users] couriersmtp hangs during send . . .

I'm seeing new behavior on two previously well-working mail servers that is
causing me problems. I also have a third server that is not yet exhibiting
this behavior. All three servers are running Ubuntu 7.10. One of the two
servers has the following Courier-MTA packages installed:

Because of the problem, I removed Courier from one of the servers and
installed Postfix.

The first server is used for regular e-mail sending and receiving for about
125 accounts. The other two servers are used only for sending administrative
alerts (cron job reports and the like) to myself.

A few weeks ago, one of the two administrative servers started exhibiting the
behavior where it would send up to four e-mails and then stop sending any
more. The rest would just sit in the mail queue. What showed up in the task
list (ps axf) was something like this:

I could not kill the processes and I could not restart the system w/o
physically pressing the power button. (I would get an error message at system
halt to the effect that the drive was busy.) When I restarted the server, it
would send the next four messages, then hang again. There were no error
messages that I could find in any of the system logs.

I spent quite a while attempting to figure out what was causing the behavior
but could not. My searches on the Internet came up with only a few unrelated
results. I tried uninstalling Courier and reinstalling it several times
(thinking I had corrupt files or something similar), even to the point of
deleting all Courier files after the install and manually reconfiguring the
system after the reinstall, but every time Courier would hang on four
messages and stop sending any more. Finally, I totally removed Courier and
installed Postfix, and I haven't had a problem since.

Today, I noticed that my main mail server is exhibiting the same behavior. The
examples above are from it. The second administrative mail sever has not yet
started doing this, but at this point, I'm expecting it to start happening.
The reason I didn't notice the mail server's behavior is because it is still
sending e-mail (which the other one did not do). Those six processes are,
however, using all the CPU and making everything very slow.

I really do not want to go through the effort of reconfiguring the mail server
with different software. I have enough other emergencies on my plate this
week that I won't be finished for two or three weeks. :^)

Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this behavior and how I
can stop it?

The module wasn't built properly. You probably have OpenLDAP installed in
some non-standard directory that's not searched by default, by the runtime
loader.

Try putting a -R option into LDFLAGS, when running configure, ./configure
[options] LDFLAGS="-R /directory/path/to/openldap/libraries"

[courier-users] filtration smtp connections.

i look in a /etc/courier/smtpacess/* and see, that i can filter incoming connection by ip adress or by a part of it.
i want to now:
1. how making regular expressions?
81.81.81 means that i ment in my record net 81.81.81.0/24
how make expression like 81.*.81.81 or something such as it?

2. can i filter smtp connection by hostname or dns name or by a part of it ?
my tries insert record like
yandex
*.yandex.*
*yandex.ru
not bring me a success.
in a exim docementaion i read, that records may be as shown above and *-adsl-* === many such hosts sent spam, and i want to deny them to connect or send mail.
in documentation on courier-mta.org i didn't find distinct answers for this quiestions.

[courier-users] Can't get GnuTLS to use TLS_TRUSTCERTS

After dealing with OpenSSL TLS issues for awhile now I decided to give
GnuTLS a go since it supposedly is more flexible with it's negotiations.
I found that it supported more Internet SMTP encrypted sessions out of
the box however, I ran into issues with TLS_TRUSTCERTS. With OpenSSL I
had specified:

TLS_TRUSTCERTS=/etc/pki/tls/certs/gd_intermediate_bundle.crt

Since my IMAP SSL Certificate was a secondary from GoDaddy. This worked
fine for OpenSSL but in the switch to GnuTLS, clients could no longer see
the "chain". I tried a number of different ways and methods but it seems
to me right now that GnuTLS ignores the TLS_TRUSTCERTS setting.

Can anybody offer any insight into this?

As a side question, could I theoretically take the couriertls binary
from an OpenSSL compile and the couriertls binary from a GnuTLS binary
and use them both in the same Courier install? I'm thinking of setting
it up like:

/usr/lib/courier/bin/couriertls-gnutls
/usr/lib/courier/bin/couriertls-openssl
/usr/lib/courier/bin/couriertls -> /usr/lib/courier/bin/couriertls-openssl

then by default, services would use SSL but in /etc/courier/esmtpd I would
set:

COURIERTLS=/usr/lib/courier/bin/couriertls-gnutls

thus (if it works) port 25 server SMTP traffic would use GnuTLS while
smtps (465), imap, imaps, pop3 and pop3s would use OpenSSL. All my
relaying clients machines use 465 so they would get OpenSSL. The reason
for this being that I have pretty tight control over my IMAP/POP3/SMTPS
clients and can make sure they're using software that does TLS/SSL3
properly but I want to support all the (broken) Internet Servers that
break with OpenSSL.

So am I way off on this one or what?
