Security update issues for Dreamweaver 8

Author: standout magazine
Date: Jun 30, 2008 23:19

I've updated my Dreamweaver 8 to the 8.02, but when I open Dreamweaver it still
says "security update available for the insert flash video command". I'm a
newbie to web design/development as well as this program, but pretty sure I
followed the instructions accordingly. I also get an error when I try to view
my tutorial page that had flash in it. I still have the Dreamweaver 8 disc.
I've been coming back to this off and on for months. Now I really need to
finish building my website. Should I just uninstall/reinstall the whole
program?

Could I have screwed things up by downloading adobe flash player active x or
shockwave? I also currently use adobe creative suite 2, if that is relevant.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Russian text works, Polish text doesn't -- cookbook, please

Author: hen3ry

Folks,

DW CS3 MacOS 10.4.x

I've been receiving short paragraphs of Russian text via e-mail and in MS
Word files that I need on web pages. I just copy-and-paste the text into a new
DW8 web page, publish, and --no problem at all-- I see the exact same text in
my browser. (I can't read Russian, but I can recognize that the two
representations are identical.)

I haven't done anything special in DW, not that I know of. In DW8 Font
Preferences, "Unicode 4.0 UTF-8" is selected.

I just got some Polish text and I tried exactly the same method. No, doesn't
work. The characters that are the same as a American-Latin are rendered
correctly, and the Polish is represented correctly in DW8, but after
publication, in browsers, the Polish diacritics show up ... completely wrong.
I tried two different browsers. No difference.

What can I do to get BOTH Polish and Russian text to show up on web pages, as
simply as possible? Do I have to give up Russian to get Polish? (Not OK! I
need both.) It's perfectly all right for only the major browsers to show the
texts correctly, and to require special preference settings in the browsers if
necessary.

Timestamps on remote files is wrong

Author: Brenda
Date: Jun 30, 2008 19:11

I just moved a site to a new server (at HostMySite.com). Whenever I upload a
page, DW shows the timestamp on the remote file to be 4 hours ahead of my
time. I verified with HostMySite that the time zone on the server is set to
Eastern Daylight Time, as is my computer. Plus, when I look at the files on
the server through Filezilla, the timestamps are correct. So it appears DW
is somehow misinterpreting the timestamps.

I've worked on lots of other sites at other hosts and never had a problem
before. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help.

Dreamweaver 8 trouble: Is it my laptop that is dying or my external hard drive?

Author: Wordman-GL

Hello all.

Beginning yesterday, I have not been able to successfully open files in DW8 on
my laptop. I use the Files menu, the one at the lower right corner of the
screen below the CSS menu. When I click on the file, nothing happens. So I
click again and I get an error message:

Title: rundll32.exe
Message content: The instruction at "0x7c910f29" referenced memory at
"0x00000000", The memory could not be "read".

Here's why I think it's my laptop:

When I use the File menu at the top, left of the screen...DW8 opens every file
I ask it to without fault.

  Cannot get video to run

Author: dwceb
Date: Jun 30, 2008 19:07

I am trying to view the video tutorials from the Dreamweaver Hot CD-Rom. I
have copied the video from the CD to my hard drive. When I double click on the
video name, the video comes up but Quicktime Player will not activate.

The book says "Double-click the video you want to watch, and it will
automatically open in QuckTime Player".

It does not. Any suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Background Issues

Author: Kurrupted.Designs
Date: Jun 30, 2008 18:53

Hey,
I'm new with dreamweaver. But anyways, my background for my design looks good
on my pc; however, my friends on widescreens see my background as messed up and
out of line. So i got one of my friends to line it up in a resolution with more
width and to align it with my template. So he got it looking good on his
widescreen, but on my side his is out of line and such. What should I do to
solve this issue? Thanks a lot,

Using DW MX 2004 on old computer

Author: MattRNick

Here is the situation: I work on a G4 and have used this version of DreamWeaver
7 MX without issue for 3 years. My G5 is malfunctioning so I fire up my old G4.
Unfortunately, when I attempt to use this full educational version, I get a
message stating that my 'Trial Period has Ended.' I also enter the serial
number which but no luck. As a kicker Adobe no longer supports this
version...go figure. Any help is greatly appreciated!

My menu drop downs stay expanded on my site. This started when IE was updated
to 6.0 and 7.0. It does not happen if someone has an older version. I have
attached the code and the following is a link to how the page looks...

  Backwards compatabilty with MX?

Author: redhill000
Date: Jun 30, 2008 17:43

I'm looking to design our new site with CS3 trial, static site, using
dreamweaver and Fireworks...but will I be able to update the site later wih
Studio MX? Most edits will be text (content) changes... nothing structural.
I'll probably wait till CS4 comes out to upgrade. Any one had experience with
this?

Cheers

Dave
