any A8N-SLI premium users out there with an X2 installed?

Author: jurriaan

I have an Asus A8N-SLI premium motherboard, with the latest official
1009 bios. Powernow/cpufreq has been working perfectly with a 3700+
single core cpu.

After I've upgraded to an X2 4600+ dualcore cpu, I sse

Linux version 2.6.18-mm2 (jurriaan@middle) (gcc version 4.1.2 20060920 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-14)) #4 SMP Thu Sep 28 18:53:36 CEST 2006
...
powernow-k8: Found 2 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ processors (version 2.00.00)
powernow-k8: MP systems not supported by PSB BIOS structure
powernow-k8: MP systems not supported by PSB BIOS structure
...

which is not a happy message. Before I start testing beta bioses, can
anybody tell me if they have any experience with for example the
beta 1011-006 or 1302 bios, and if it fixes this problem?

I've searched the web, but found only windows-centric solutions.

Fail to detect the Cd-Rw

Hy,

I tried to install the AMD64 OS version, on my PC, the boot worked fine, but when installer should Detect and Mount the cdrom, failed to detect any. I was wondering if there is any problem with my mainboard. I have an Abit Aw8-Max, a Intel Pentium D 830, and 2 optical units, a cd-rw and a dvd-rw both Plextor.
Can you please tell me what should I do, so the installer to detect one of my optical unit.

Cheers

Is there a particular reason your using a mm2 kernel? I would
suggest the main line kernel. I don't have your exact board but I
do have an Opty 165 don't have any problems with powernow. You
might be missing some kernel patch or something, a check of the
changelog might determine what is missing.

Can an Intel Pentium D run an AMD 64 OS?

Not having either yet (building first AMD system now) I don't know for
sure. I would have thought that the AMD64 is the wrong Debian port.
Read the Ports page at debian.org and see, try IA_64.

Doug.

The 2.6.8 kernel is rather old and doesn't support hardware released
after it was (that means any new hardware made in the last 18 months).
Try either getting one of the newer unofficial sarge installers (such as
the one from http://kmuto.jp/debian/d-i/) or install Etch(testing)
instead which officially has amd64 support from debian.

IA64 = Itanium != x86 at all.

amd64 is the right port for that system. Well that or i386 if 64bit isn't
desired.
