Unable to resolve addresses only with some tools

Author: Pascal Giard
Date: Jan 11, 2007 23:10

Did something broke in latest update?

I'm unable to resolve addresses with some e.g. gaim, xchat, apt-get.
I'm able to resolve addresses with others e.g. ping, firefox, amule,
mail-notification.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure what happened and how to fix it.
Having a broken apt-get is somewhat of a painful constraint.

thanks for any tips or help you can provide,

-Pascal

  Openoffice

Hi
Can anyone explain to me why Openoffice 2.1 is not available for amd64? It
compiles perfectly and works nicely and you can get the debian packages on my
server if you are interested. But as before, there may be some unwanted stuff
on my server.

Problems seeing samba shares from chroot

Author: Clive Menzies
Date: Jan 11, 2007 10:10

Hi

I have two sid amd64 systems on this box (main and reserve); the
principle difference between the two is the main system is on LVM.
Firefox/Iceweasel is run in the 32bit chroot and works fine on both.
However, following a recent upgrade of the main system, I could no
longer access samba shares from firefox even after remounting the shares
manually (using mount -a).

Initially, I suspected udev which was upgraded from 103-1 to 103-2 but
testing this theory on the reserve system proved otherwise. Both with
103-1 and 103-2 I can access the shares from firefox in the chroot.

Anyone got an idea how to troubleshoot this?

from /etc/fstab:

//zeus/cma /smb/cma cifs credentials=/home/clive/.smb_pass,uid=clive,gid=staff,file_mode=0660,dir_mode=0770 0 0

/smb/cma /var/chroot/sid-ia32/smb/cma none bind 0 0

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use%% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/alpha-root 293M 122M 156M 44%% /
tmpfs 250M 0 250M 0%% /lib/init/rw

  java

Author: Francesco Pietra

Has anyone tried to run jmol 11.0.RC4 (SourceForge)?
Which java >=4 package? Is java runtime from debian
repositories ok to this purpose? Or which java from
Sun?

Sorry for asking about something non-free, though jmol
would solve problems of viewing (and getting geometric
parameters) in carrying out work chemical computing.

Thanks for help
