Porter shell to fix FTBFS in mumble

Author: Patrick Matthäi

Hello list,

we (Thorvald and myself (Thorvald is the upstream author of mumble))
need a ia64 shell to fix a FTBFS on ia64 introduces in mumble >= 1.1.5.

Failure logs:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=mumble&ver=1.1.5-1&arch=ia64&stamp=1221086349&file...
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=mumble&ver=1.1.6-1&arch=ia64&stamp=1221326204&file...

We think that it is caused by the new reverse dependencie zeroc-ice, but
we have to analyze the problem first.

It would be fine if we could get a shell on a ia64 with the following
requirements:

* apt-get build-dep mumble
* sid (system itself or schroot etc.)

Thanks.

Unbootable linux-image-2.6.26-1-mckinley on hp workstation zx6000

Author: Émeric Maschino
Date: Aug 29, 2008 14:20

Hi,

Today's Lenny updates came with linux-image-2.6.26-1-mckinley (build
2.6.26-3) onboard.
But I can't boot my hp workstation zx6000 using the provided image. The last
line displayed on the screen is "Loading file
\EFI\debian\initrd.img...done". Then, nothing happens and I must manually
shutdown the system by pressing the on/off switch (the USB driver isn't yet
loaded and the keyboard is thus unworking).
Rebuilding a new initramfs didn't help. Do I have to do something else
special to boot on kernel 2.6.26?

I know that on Fedora IA-64 Rawhide, kernel 2.6.26 is currently broken on
SCSI-based Itanium systems, which is the case of the hp workstation zx6000.
I didn't succeed either in following Doug Chapman's initramfs rebuilding
steps (see
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ia64-list/2008-July/msg00010.html and
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ia64-list/2008-July/msg00012.html for
details), but the boot process goes farther.

Cheers,

Émeric

  sudden gclcvs build failure

Author: Camm Maguire
Date: Aug 21, 2008 15:00

Greetings! Of a sudden, gclcvs_2.7.0-86, a package which autobuilt
successfully on 8/2, no longer builds in sid. Curiously, I get this:

camm@merulo:~/gclcvs-2.7.0/unixport$ file raw_pre_gcl
raw_pre_gcl: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, IA-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.8, not stripped
camm@merulo:~/gclcvs-2.7.0/unixport$ ldd raw_pre_gcl
not a dynamic executable
camm@merulo:~/gclcvs-2.7.0/unixport$ strace -f ./raw_pre_gcl
execve("./raw_pre_gcl", ["./raw_pre_gcl"], [/* 16 vars */]) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
+++ killed by SIGKILL +++

Please advise,

  nspluginwrapper: building on ia64

Author: Javier Serrano Polo
Date: Aug 5, 2008 09:50

Hi, Rob.

I've read you wanted to support nspluginwrapper on ia64. I can't try
ia64, but I know the powerpc case (flashplayer). I've put the i386 files
from nspluginwrapper into a separate package. The native part is
compiled on powerpc and the i386 part is repackaged from another
architecture.

Perhaps you might want an ia64 user to test this procedure.
(I don't think this will reach debian-ia64, but CCing anyway)

Bye.

sporatic failure to boot on sgi750

Author: Brian Szymanski
Date: Aug 1, 2008 11:30

I'm having sporatic failures to boot on an sgi750 (2x733MHz Merced)
which I've recently obtained. Once the system is up, however, it's rock
solid, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. Also, the problem
occurs whether booting from CD or booting from the hard drive. If I try
to boot from the CD, the error looks like this:

CD:
Uncompressing Linux... done
Loading file \initrd.gz... done
[ flashing cursor mocks me until i reboot ]

HD:
Uncompressing Linux... done
Loading file \EFI\debian\initrd.gz... done
[ flashing cursor mocks me until i reboot ]

Only difference is the path to initrd.gz. Debian etch 4r3 and 4r4 boot
cds both have the same problem. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or
reason I can discern to the failures, which occur on 1/2 to 2/3 of
boots. It looks like the same problem as:
