Hello,
I've managed to acquire some unwanted SCSI drives and would like to re-
install my XP1000 in a software Raid5 setup. I've been playing with the
lenny beta2 net inst CD and can't seem to find the mdadm software raid
option. Has anyone else done this who could point the way?
thanks
Simon

Hello everybody!
At last, I managed to put my "new" DS20 at office, in a place where I
can put it online every time I want, and also let it work 24x7 if
needed (thanks to a nice 2000 VA MGE UPS donated by a friend).
The install run smooth.
I haven't noticed any problem at all.
As I put everything on XFS filesystems, there is need of a separate /
boot.
The installer complains that the /boot should be on ext2 fs, but I
thought that an ext3 partition works good too (I use /boot on ext3 on a
PWS)
Debian packages are in good shape.
I can also install and boot 2.6.26 SMP alpha kernel, while I cannot do
the same on i386 (freezes both on my dual core Xeon Proliant ML110 at
work and on my Dual Core Acer Aspire at home)
I was surprised that it works on Alpha and still not fixed on i386,
since I expected to be the contrary.

Hi all,
I've scoured the HP web-site for information on hardware configuration and cabling for a DS20 and ES40, but was wondering if there might be additional information on cabling and configuration for Alpha boxes, and the DS20/ES40 and BA356 storage shelves specifically.
I'm new to Alpha and need some help getting my system up. But want to RTFM first before posting here.
Debian questions when I get a handle on the hardware...
Thanks for any and all pointers!
Lee C.

Yes, same problem here.
Please provide a (non-exhaustive) list of model and/or system types
that are supported by each particular package. For example, I have an
"Alpha EV67" with system type and variation reported as "Tsunami" and
"Monet" by /proc/cpuinfo. However, I still don't have any clue if I
have to install the -generic or the -legacy kernel.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Fabian

Hi,
I'm currently maintaining zeroc-ice packages and noticed that
http://buildd.debian.org/zeroc-ice
reports that some architectures are waiting for mysterious build
dependencies.
The alpha autobuilder is waiting for default-jdk-builddep which is
a Build-Depends-Indep, not needed for building binary-arch. I know
the current Policy is not clear about this but most other autobuilders
seem to agree on
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2008/08/msg00447.html
Is there anything I can do to get it compiled in alpha?
Regards,
F. Moya

Hi folks,
With lenny just around the corner, I think it's time to start thinking about
the future of the Debian alpha port for lenny+1 and beyond.
I've noticed some time before, early in the lenny cycle, that the alpha port
is no longer useful to me personally. It's still been fun to hack on from
time to time, but my alpha is so far underpowered compared to all the other
machines I have on-line that it's no longer useful to me.
It's also by far the loudest machine in the house and dissipates the most
heat.
So I'm committed to following through on the alpha port through the release
of lenny, but once lenny is out I intend to discontinue my work on it; my
alpha is only powered on in order to do daily builds of the installer, and
I'm looking forward to powering it off.
Are there other developers still actively using alpha who are willing to do
the work to maintain it? Or perhaps a more important question: does anyone
foresee themselves still using alpha three years from now (1.5 years of
lenny as stable, + 1 year of security support as oldstable)?
