Hi there,

finally, last night I decided to solve the pending issues around dist/
URLs when using the CPAN cache. So after some discussion with Gregor,
I wrote a parser for 02packages.details.txt.gz, hoping to use it for
all our cpan needs, in conunction with the CPAN::DistnameInfo module
for parsing filenames.

Silly me, of course it doesn't show unofficial versions of modules or
distributions, so I recovered the old parser and left them both, so we
can use two different caches (one for dist/ URLs and the other for
by-modules and by-authors). I've tried to use the find-ls.gz file,
which looks much better than a ls-lR, but CPAN is SO fucked up that
this file seems to lack *some* files in the by-authors hierarchy.

Also, by accident (because packages.details is indexed by module and
not by distribution) I discovered that the upstream author of
Class::Autoclass, has released a new version using autoclass as the
dist name, and using underscores as version separators [0], and all
this is valid in CPAN!

I've uploaded another 5.10.0 package to experimental. With luck this
one will actually get into the archive.

  watch files

Author:
Date: Dec 21, 2007 09:00

Yesterday I started to improve a couple of watch files in our
repository:

* first I changed all URLs pointing to
http://mirrors.kernel.org/cpan/modules/by-module/ ... because of
the timeouts this server has
* then I changed the URLs containing /authors/ because they don't
match anymore if the maintainer of a module changes

For all changed URLs I've used the dist-based scheme, which is also
used by current dh-make-perl:
http://search.cpan.org/dist/Module-Name/ .*/Module-Name-([[:digit:]].*)\.tar\.gz

At that point I saw that there are quite a lot of watch files
referring to URLs with /by-authors/, and I decided to spend my time
on scripting the changes instead of manually fixing them all :)

What I've done (with the help of dam, Tincho and SquOnk on irc) is to
extend the packagecheck script (in svn under /scripts/qa); the new
test kicks in if the URL in debian/watch doesn't match
search.cpan.org/dist and then changes any cpan-related URL to the
above mentioned scheme. This affects /by-module/ URLs as well. [0]

Bug#457165: New upstream version for Test::Simple

Author: David Paleino
Date: Dec 20, 2007 01:40

Package: libtest-simple-perl
Version: 0.62-1
Severity: normal

Hi,
There is a new upstream version available on CPAN (0.74). Please have a look at
it, or consider donating the package to the Debian Perl Group
lists.alioth.debian.org> [1]. We will keep it up-to-date
with CPAN, and take care of it.

This package is needed by libtest-exception-perl 0.26-1, which I'm just
packaging, which needs libtest-simple-perl (>= 0.7).

Kindly,
David

[1] that would be the Maintainer field. To get in touch with us, please write

RFS: podbrowser (updated package) - 2nd try

Author: Jeffrey Ratcliffe
Date: Dec 19, 2007 06:10

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.12-1
of my package "podbrowser".

It builds these binary packages:
podbrowser - Documentation browser for Perl

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 362648, 363506, 363508, 386270, 455466

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/podbrowser
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/podbrowser/podbrowser_0.12-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
Jeffrey Ratcliffe

I CC'ed debian-perl@lists.debian.org, I guess that's the right place to ask.

You can subscribe to all parrot related QA issues here:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/p/parrot.html (left column, under "PTS
subscription"). If you select "Advanced Mode", you can chose only to get
bug reports.

  New version of libcache-memcached

Author: Jeremiah C. Foster
Date: Dec 18, 2007 04:40

Hello,

I used the magical uscan command to download a new version of
Cached-Memcached which would get rid of two bugs. One of the bugs
wasn't really a bug and I closed it by hand after communication with
the memcached mailing list. The other bug was asking for a new
version of libcache-memcached-perl.

I would be grateful if someone were to look the package over
and see if it needs more work or is ready for upload.

Cheers!

Jeremiah

Alejandro, may I ask you to introduce yourself to the rest of the group?

Your request was received only by the project admins. A brief mail to
debian-perl@lists.debian.org stating what your intentions/expectations
are would be very good.

Also, have you read the project docs at
http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org/ ? Do you have any questions?

[ I guess we need a how-to-join document somewhere on the site.
Any volunteeres? :) ]

Or a link to http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianPerlGroup and more
information at the bottom of that page.

Cheers,
