  How to handle Eclipse plugins

Author: Andreas Tille
Date: May 29, 2008 07:50

Hi,

I'm completely new to eclipse and for the moment I only want to
use it to access MS SQL 2007 servers which seems to be the only
way from Linux by using Quantum DB plugin with Microsoft SQL
Server 2005 JDBC Driver. But may be I like Eclipse more and so
I want to know how to cleanly handle Plugins instead of just
changing permissions to /usr/lib/eclipse to enable myself to
copy some files to this location (uhmm, is this dirty ...).

Google leaded me to

http://lists.debian.org/debian-java/2005/09/msg00031.html

and I personally would like to turn those two plugins I need
(org.eclipse.gef and quantum.sourceforge.net) into Debian packages
but there was no real outcome of this discussion. Moreover in
a followup to this mail Jerry Haltom claimed that
> You should be able to
> install a plugin from eclipse and it should end up in either
> ~/.eclipse/plugins or /usr/local/lib/eclipse/plugins or something.

Circular build dependencies in jboss related packages

Author: Onkar Shinde
Date: May 22, 2008 06:10

Hi all,

I am trying to fix FTBFS for jboss related packages in Ubuntu. But I
have found out that there are circular build dependencies. Since there
has been no change in source in Ubuntu, I thought I would better ask
here.

Are the circular build dependencies intentional or accidental? If they
are intentional can anyone suggest any way to fix FTBFS?

Thanks in advance.

Onkar

  ant-vars.mk in cdbs

Author: David Herron
Date: May 21, 2008 07:11

Hi, I'm looking at learning to package java apps for Ubuntu/Debian and
came across the cdbs thingy

In there is ant.mk and ant-vars.mk and in the latter is this stanza:-

JAVA_HOME = $(shell for jh in $(JAVA_HOME_DIRS); do if [ -x
"$$jh/bin/java" ]; then \
echo $${jh}; exit 0; fi; done)
JAVACMD = $(JAVA_HOME)/bin/java

Clearly the issue is to, at compile time, find where JAVA_HOME is so
that...? But is this the best way to find JAVA_HOME and what about the
Java alternatives? The above code is going to stop at the first
/usr/lib/jvm/*/bin/java it finds and depending on the sort order of '*'
it might or might not be the best or desired choice on a system that has
several Java implementations installed.

The way Java implementations are installed a /usr/bin/java and
/usr/bin/javac exist. But ant requires knowing where JAVA_HOME is.

I don't know how to query to find the currently set Java alternative.
update-java-alternatives has --list and --set but not --current. If
that existed maybe JAVA_HOME could be something like:-

JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/$(shell update-java-alternatives --current)

  Debian package of geronimo

Author: Jonas Granvik
Date: May 18, 2008 10:10

Hi,

Was just trying to get Geronimo running on a debian machine, but noticed
that there was no ready made package to debian. Is there any particular
reason for this, or has it just not got done yet?

It would be really nice if there would be a ready made package so that
directories and configs would be done in debian style. Is there someone
with better knowledge about making debian packages than me that would be
interested in this? At least I find Geronimo as an interesting
environment to develop and run JavaEE applications and especially their
management console is very appealing compared to e.g. JBoss. At least
JBoss and Glassfish seem to already be in place, but is there room for
one more solution?

Division by zero exception when running Swing program with /usr/bin/gij-4.3

Author: Benjamin Mesing
Date: May 16, 2008 03:20

Hello,

I have an application which throws loads of / by zero exceptions (see
below) when run with gij, and the ui looks almost empty. When run with
Sun java it works fine.

I've compiled it with both, sun java and ecj both leading to the same
result.

Help would be appreciated.

Best regards

About java virtual dependencies and provides and the Java Policy

Author: Eric Lavarde
Date: May 11, 2008 04:40

Hi,

browsing through the repositories to check some Java stuff, I find quite
some confusion around virtual packages:

icedtea-java7-jre provides: java-runtime, java2-runtime, java5-runtime,
java6-runtime, java7-runtime
icedtea-java7-jdk provides: java-sdk, java2-sdk, java5-sdk, java6-sdk,
java7-sdk
(java5 and 6 add the headless combinations to those)
icepick depends: default-jre-headless | java2-runtime-headless, java-common
gij provides: java-runtime-headless, java-virtual-machine,
java1-runtime-headless, java2-runtime-headless, java5-runtime-headless
libgcj9-0-awt doesn't provide anything (not even javasomethingruntime)
default-jre-headless, default-jre, java-gcj-compat and
java-gcj-compat-headless are rather aligned with gij...

And I'm probably missing a few more interesting combinations...

At the same time, the Java Policy (as found in java-common) is still
only speaking about java-compiler, java2-compiler, java-virtual-machine,
java1-runtime and java2-runtime.
