Bug#478187: RFS: trang 20030619-7 (QA upload, second try)

Author: Michael Schutte
Date: Sep 21, 2008 07:50

Hi everyone,

Could any of you, preferably with more Java packaging experience than
me, have a look at my proposed trang revision 20030619-7? Uploading it
would close #478187 (G); the error described there is caused by gcj
hiding an internal package of trang behind a built-in one. I’ve posted
an RFS two weeks ago [1], but only one non-DD responded, which is why
I’m adding -qa. The source package can be downloaded from:

http://alioth.debian.org/~michi-guest/packages/trang_20030619-7.dsc

It builds fine in pbuilder, the binary package as well as the source is
lintian clean, and debdiff against the binary package from 6.1 shows no
unexpected changes.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could comment on what I’ve done
and eventually upload it.

For those who care about batik

Author: Vincent Fourmond
Date: Sep 19, 2008 09:30

Hello,

I've done quite a good deal of work to get the newer upstream version
of batik working, and I've picked up quite a few patches from here and
there too (credits given in the changelog). This resulted in an upload
to main/experimental a few days ago, that still has to go through the
NEW queue (contrib to main...), along with an upload to the same place
for xmlgraphics-common.

The upload is to experimental, because I'm not sure I won't break
reverse dependencies, and also because there are some functionalities
that I did find were not working properly:

* JPEG output for rasterizer does not seem to work even with sun's
pristine Java
* I never got squiggle to work (and that was also true for the
previous, very old version).
* I have no idea of how rdepends should work and how they interact
with batik so I could not check that.

Re: clarification of license of generated install scripts

Hello,

I unfortunately don't have the answer for your question, but I'm
forwarding it to debian-java@lists.debian.org, which seems the
appropriate place to get an answer.

Anyone working on Java3D Debian packages?

Author: Petter Reinholdtsen
Date: Sep 11, 2008 08:10

Hi. Recently, I have started looking into the RepRap project
(<URL:http://www.reprap.org/>), and a lot of the software in that
project is written in Java.

The control software is using Java3D and related libraries, and
because of this I am looking for Debian packages for it. Are there
anyone working on packaging Java3D packages in Debian at the moment?
Or, are there source packages available from elsewhere? I tried
looking for a WNPP request, but did not find any. Is Java3D on the
radar for the Debian Java subproject at the moment?

The reprap-host program seem to need Java3D itself, but also a library
available from
<URL:ftp://ftp.j3d.org/pub/code/j3d-org-code-0.9.tar.gz>.

Happy hacking,

  java jfractionlab debian package

Author: Xavier Oswald
Date: Sep 9, 2008 13:10

Hi,

Im asking here if someone is interested in packaging jfractionlab[1] for debian.

Im to busy right now to take another package and maintain it in a good way.

Since it is related to education and as it is commonly used with debian-edu, it
would be nice if someone could do the debian package.

It could be maintain within the debian-edu or the debian-java team.

If nobody is interested, I will put it in my TODO list and do the package ASAP
but it will take some time...

Im not opening an ITP neither a RFP but will do any of those if nobody is
interested.

  Confused about the Glassfish packages

Author: David Goodenough
Date: Sep 9, 2008 05:30

I am confused about the Glassfish packages on Debian. What are they
intended for? They do not seem to install a complete running version
of Glassfish (there is no /etc/init.d script for a start) so I assume that
they are intended just to deliver JARs needed for development.

So this begs two questions, firstly why does it not say this in the
description (the implication is that if you install all of the glassfish
packages you have a complete system) and secondly what is the plan to
completethis set of packages so that we can have a complete running
glassfish installation from deb files.

  Sun's graphic art for Java

Author: Eric Lavarde - Debian
Date: Sep 8, 2008 05:20

Hi,

the icons set distributed by Sun under [1] doesn't respond to the DFSG
criteria (point ii of the -attached- license doesn't allow for
modifications, as pointed out by my sponsor, in cc), hence a few questions
and remarks:

1. From the look&feel of different java apps, the icon set is relatively
widely used, everybody should be aware of this limitation.

2. I know that people from Sun are "lurking" around, they might be
interested in fixing this (that would be the easiest).

3. Perhaps someone has already faced the same issue, and knows of an
alternative *free* drop-in replacement that I/upstream could use.

Thanks, Eric
