Hello,
I just tried to boot a vaio laptop (z505je) with the etch boot floppies. While
it worked well with sarge floppies, I get with the RC1 boot floppy (the same
with the latest daily build):
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44 M
floppy0: no floppy controllers found
Cannot load floppy module
Giving up!
The z505 comes with an USB floppy.
When booting the sarge boot floppies, I get
With the sarge boot disks it looks pretty similar
floppy0: no floppy controllers found
insmod: init_module: floppy: No such device
modprobe: failed to load module floppy
But then sarge starts probing usb and the boot/root process works, whereas
etch gives up(!)
I am wondering, if I just missed a boot parm in the etch install process...
Thanks,
Rainer

Package: installation-report
Version: Etch RC1
Severity: minor
I've been testing the Etch graphical installer (installgui) in QEMU (x86
mode).
When asked to choose a mirror of the Debian archive, I first clicked on "enter
information manually". My cursor turns to the text selector style (like a
capital I). When I click "Go back" the cursor stays like this and doesn't get
back to normal pointer.
Just to get this polished :)

Package: debian-installer-manual
Severity: wishlist
Hi!
It's not clear to me how to get the source for the Debian Installation
Guide.
At the Debian Documentation Project page[1], there's a Subversion
command line that will probably checkout the latest development
version (right?). This seems OK.
But the published version for the stable release[2] does not tell
any method to get source for that version.
I think it should made easy to get the source for the published version
of the guide, ideally with a link to a good (gzipped or bzipped2) tar
archive of the complete source.
I tried to browse through the WebSVN interface, but I quickly got lost...
:-(
After some failed tries, I figured out that I could get the source package
of debian-installer-manual (sarge version), but it's not really clear to
me whether this is the same exact version as the one "published for the
stable release"[2]... Is it the same?

OK. Looking at [1] it seems to me that the netinst is somehow getting
split into 2 separate images with the regular debs probably ending up on
the second one instead of everything together on the first one.
Reassigning this bug to debian-cd as it seems that is where the problem
is.
Thanks for reporting!

Hi,
today, I downloaded the latest netinst and business card image daily
uilds of the debian installer for powerpc. Is it right that there are no
prep kernels on it? On my recently acquired powerstack I can't boot
install/powerpc/vmlinux, nor the ppc64 kernel (well, this expected, yes).
However, there are prep udebs on the CD, so do I miss something obvious?
TIA,
Uli

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think we want to go into that kind
of detail in the RN.
I've limited the list in the previous section to only the major changes
and expect that users serious about using preseeding will read the
appendix in the installation guide anyway.
Cheers,
