In the 1980s, as reported in _Reagan's War_, our government
coordinated with the Saudis to spike oil production, causing oil
prices to plummet, thus killing off a principal source of hard
currency for the oil producing Soviet Union, directly contributing to
the collapse of the Soviet empire and the liberation of Eastern
Europe.
At the moment, the third largest oil producer in the world currently
puts much of its own potential supply offlimits out of misguided
environmental concerns, thus promoting a low supply+high demand=high...

Presidential hopeful, Senator John McCain has begun to outline the
medical plan that he advocates for the nation. From what I have read,
I have no clear idea of what it is, except an attempt to not interfere
with the status quo of semi-socialized medicine. However, when
contrasted to the Democrats' intentions, McCain's conservatism is
better in the short run--especially in comparison to Hillary Clinton's
socialist agenda.
Despite his efforts at "middle ground", if the slippery slope to total
socialized medicine is not reversed in time, McCain's shot at free
market sound bites will not matter to medicine and those who purchase
it. This leads to my central question:
"Will Republican caused socialized medicine be worse in the long run
than if a Democrat President holds office during the destruction of
the medical industry?"

Here's a decent documentary about Wikipedia that includes former
humanities.philosophy.objectivism poster Jimmy Wales:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMSinyx_Ab0
What was immediately noticeable to me was that leftists, elitists, Socialists
and Progressives like Andrew Keen and Steven Colbert are largely against
Wikipedia because they are no longer the gate keepers of knowledge, while
Libertarians and Objectivists are in favor of it. They also comment that the
future is individualist and Libertarian. This is a good sign of things to
come.
One other off-the cuff observation: Amazon, Youtube, eBay, Google, Facebook,
Yahoo, Wikipedia and Myspace - the top internet sites - are all products of
America. I don't think it's an accident that comparatively socialist Europe is
failing to compete creatively in the Internet space.

I'm not usually a fan of Slate, but sometimes they have semi-observant
posts:
Democratic mistake is overlooking Hillary

I am disturbed that so many of my fellow Democrats are so quick to
overlook Hillary Clinton, in favor of the mindless handover to Barrack
Obama. Are we really so sure he has what it takes to win, and does he
really support our ideas?
It seems to me that the nomination was handed to Obama based on three
factors:
1) The media announced that Hillary had 'high negatives' among voters,
which is the political equivalent of AIDS.
2) Obama got an early push from such intellectual giants as Oprah and
Ted Kennedy. Oprah is known for her wisdom in selecting such quality
men as James Frey and Dr Phil McGraw. No comment on the 'leadership'
Uncle Ted has provided to the Democrats.

What did Rand mean by "attack the senses" in:
"For instance, I do not include here a discussion of the validity
of man's senses - since the arguments of those who attack the senses
are merely variants of the fallacy of the stolen concept.
For the purposes of this series, the validty of the senses must be
taken for granted - and one must remember the axiom: Existence
exists."
Ayn Rand, Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology,
New York: New American Library, 1966, 4.
