  Test Display Issue

Author: Jean Smith
Date: Dec 27, 2008 00:33

Besides the issue of iTunes switching to other channels from WLRH,
I would really like to see text display as written. This newsgroup
posting shows up with punctuation moved up and down:
4ax.com> raised commas and
dropped quotation marks would be great to banish from my newsreader,
MT-Newswatcher.

Hints on how to do the attributes that I used to be able to do would
be welcome, too. I don't know what happened to ^u, ^b and the like.

The issue with WLRH doesn't seem to happen with WBHM or APR so it's not
a biggy because selecting another tune is not an energy waster like
turning on a radio.

  Local sources for woodworking tools?

Author: Gary Heston
Date: Dec 24, 2008 20:26

I'd like to pick up a pocket-hole jig or fixture similar to this:

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=205297-39450-MKJKIT&detail...

or one of the larger/fancier items. Anybody know of any local sources? The
big-box stores don't stock them, and I haven't come across them at any
other places I've looked.

These are used for drilling an angled, stepped hole into the side of a
board so a screw can be driven through it into the edge of another board,
allowing an edge-to-edge joint that's fairly strong and doesn't require
extra milling (like half-lap joints would).

And no, I'm not looking for websites. I'd rather buy local; whoever sells
them will also sell the hardened screws used with them, and I'll want a
regular supply of those.

Thanks,

Gary

  Intervideo WinDVR 3 disk needed

Author: pritsy
Date: Sep 16, 2008 19:12

I have been using Intervideo WinDVR 3 to watch and record television shows
for several years, but in the last year or so the program has slowly lost
some of its functions:. Among the lost capabilites:
1. stations must be reloaded each time it is used
2. Titan TV listings no longer accessible from the program
3. Scheduling recording fiuncton no longer works.

I cannot find the program disk (I got rid of some obsolute disks when I
moved last year, and I'm afraid it was discarded by mistake)

Win DVR 3 is no longer available commercially; it is incompaticble with
Vista.
I use Windows XP, amd WinDVR 3 worked well on it.

Does anyone have a program disk that I can have/borrow? Please?

I have some I'd like to get rid of.

Email for further details.

  Tire gauges

Author: Rev. Bob 'Bob' Crispen

The one good thing to come out of a certain candidate's campaign so far
is, hey, free tire gauge.

Which brings me to an actual technical question. I've always been anal
about tires, and we have an allegedly more accurate kind of tire gauge
with an LCD display, but the battery died a while back. Has it never
occurred to any manufacturer that there might be potential energy
stored in an inflated or semi-inflated tire?

In Google Groups the last line in the above includes vowels with
unfamiliar accent marks
rather than the questionmarks that I saw with my usual news reader.
What font setting
should I use to fix that issue and probably the commas instead of
apostraphes issue?

  pc repair recommendations?

Author: Bo
Date: Jul 2, 2008 18:01

I have a 2 yr old PC that has worked great until last evening. At boot
time I get BIOS message: "overcurrent detected on USB. Shutting down
in 15s"

I disconnected all USB devices and got the same message. I can't even
get into the BIOS setup to disable USB.

So I go to ASUS website this morning and find that other users have
had the same error and apparently fixed it by downgrading their BIOS
revision to 1015 from 1017. Now, I'm really confused because my BIOS
is really old: 0702. I have not done any BIOS changes or system
changes. About 4 months ago I did upgrade my RAM to 2G from 1G--but
that's the only HW change.

Now my questions are:

What is the best option for getting running quickly again? Replace MB
with identical model (assuming I can get one: Asus A8n-VM CSM)? or
upgrade to newer MB/processor/RAM? I really don't want to re-install
all of my programs--that is traumatic. From everything I hear though,
a change in MB will likely force this.

If there is a bad chip on the MB, is there anyone in town that could
fix this?
