PORNOLATION RELEASE

my quite new washburn "lyon" electric guitar has burnt out a component or
something. It does not work with the three position switch in either the
down or the middle position, but the front pickup (presumably...) does
work when the switch is up.

is there a simple answer to what is wrong (most likely the switch or a
pickup...)? the wiring inside was done very badly, ie. there are
numerous burns completely through the wire shielding in inappropriate
places because someone goofed with a soldering iron, so i am loathe to
return the thing to washburn for some inderminate period of time if i can
do a better job myself replacing a $12 switch.
