To really satisfy your concerns, I would contact a pest control firm or your local health authority for guidance. If you have deep concerns, then maybe the sandbox should be consigned to history? First warm day in quite a while. I'm seeing lots of paper wasps flying around but no nests yet. Do you figure these are overwintering queens (non-stinging) looking for nesting locations? I'm terrified of wasps as I'm extremely allergic. I'd like to get aggressive with them - chasing down and spraying - but I don't want to push my luck.
