Visibility of parents of merged text

Hi all!

Today I tried to merge some texts in GSP and I found it doesn't work in the same way as it worked in previous versions of GSP (if I remember it well).
Now I work in GSP 4.07, on PC, in Windows.

When I merge some texts, captions, parameters etc., there appears merged text, but all parents disappear.
I don't like disppearing parents!!!
If I have more such parents, if I need them in another constructions and if I have many other objects which are hidden, then it can be very amiss to make them visible again.
In my today work, I wanted to make several merged texts from the same parents, so I musted to make them visible again and again. :-(((

If I remember well, in previous versions of GSP, after making merged text, parents was still visible.
I like such merging!
It is very easy to make parents hidden if we want it.
But it is not so easy to make them visible again if we need them.

So, I suggest to provide possibility to merge texts so that parents will be still visible.

Thanks,
Antonija Horvatek,

Hi Antonija,

There are several different ways of merging text, and they behave
differently with regard to the visibility of parental objects after the text
has been merged.

1. If you merge two or more text objects, the parents are hidden. (In most
cases this is the desired behavior, but it does make it difficult in those
cases where you want to reuse the parents for some other purpose.)

2. If you merge text to a point (which requires the shift key), both the
text and the point remain visible.

3. If you merge text using a custom template, the parents remain visible.

Here's my suggestion when you want the parents to remain visible in case #1.
Turn the construction into a custom tool. Merge two text objects, show both
parents, select all three, and then create a new custom tool. When you use
the custom tool instead of the command to merge two text objects, the
parents will remain visible.

If you do this frequently, put the custom tool into your Tool Folder so you
always have it available.
