The main difference, for web work, between the 40D and the less expensive 450D is the speed. The 450D does a great job except in low light where it'll do great on a tripod but can't really do much above 800 or in a pinch 1600 asa. I'm generally not into flash photography. As far as megapixels they don't matter much for web photos. I have a 450D and really like it.
