Since (if I understand correctly) colour digital cameras work by
having a filter in front of an array of photosensors, it would
presumably be easy to just omit the filter. You could regard this as
giving higher resolution or you could just average pixels to produce
the same resolution with more effective area per pixel, though it
would obviously be better if the "averaging" took place before
digitizing.
