Responsibilities: The Principal Math Test Developer has overall responsibility for managing all aspects of the Math test development at AIR in a fast paced environment, including interacting with clients, developing a strong team of Math Test Developers, and insuring that systems are in place and adhered to, in order to produce high quality tests that meet required specifications within deadline and budget. This person will be expected to coordinate the test development activities for science across multiple state projects. Principal Math Test Developer responsibilities include: 1. Management of AIR staff and assessment projects Oversee math test development activities across all assessment projects a. Review and approve test blueprints and item specifications for all projects b. Review and approve plans for item pool development based on these blueprints for all projects c. Review and approve operational and field test forms based on test blueprint and field test design for all projects d. Oversee and mentor test development staff at standard settings and data review meetings e. Oversee and mentor test development staff at constructed response scoring activities f. Oversee and mentor test development staff at content committee meetings, pool planning meetings, and form building meetings with all assessment clients g. Provide Senior review and approval of test items Oversee math staff and their use of approved AIR and Test Development processes and procedures a. Develop a cohesive science team that works together to achieve a quality product and meets all deadlines across all assessment projects b. Train staff to write, review, and analyze items in ITS c. Train staff in the analysis of items based on statistical data d. Train staff to assemble test forms and determine pool needs based on statistical data and blueprint requirements e. Assign staff project work and adjust staff assignments as needed f. Oversee staff attendance and performance on assigned projects g. Set goals for staff and conduct performance reviews at required intervals h. Identify staffing needs and participate in the hiring of new math staff as needed 2. Client Interactions a. Interact with state clients and offer solutions to issues and also discuss the ramifications both positive and negative of possible alternatives b. Explain item data interpretations, pool needs analysis, and constructed response scoring requirements with the client and propose alternatives when necessary c. Respond to client requests for training of client staff in item analysis, form building, and monitoring of constructed response scoring d. Develop proposals for test development needs that respond to client requests e. Respond to client requests as needed and include appropriate AIR staff to reach decisions
Qualifications: . Ph.D. in a field of math or math education with at least 8 years of experience in the development of standardized assessments or a M.S. in a field of math or math education with at least 12 years of experience in the development of standardized assessments . Ability to identify problems and conceptualize solutions, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines . Ability to work collaboratively and manage junior staff and the test development processes . Thorough knowledge of the detection and correction of flaws in multiple choice and constructed response items . Experience in the activities of blueprint and item specification development, pool development, item review, fairness review, constructed response scoring, form development, and standard setting . Experience in the use of both classical and IRT statistical models to the interpret item level data and the construction of test forms WP
