Corel draw and drop shadow problem

Author: Pam

Ok...for some reason when I try to put a drop shadow on a font for some
reason, instead of making a 'shadow' I'm getting a black box (as if I drew a
rectangle behind the font). anyone know how and how to get back to the
regular shadow? I've made sure all the icons at the top are what I want (or
have used before), but still get the black box.

thanks
Pam

(ohhh how I would love to upgrade!!!)

As no one more knowledgeable than me has got back to you on this, I
would suggest duplicating the text, converting to a bitmap and
blurring it. After all, IIRC, drop shadows in Draw are bitmaps
anyway. If it is too dark, you could create the text using a lighter
shade of the original colour. Don`t forget to select transparent
background.

Pam,

You didn't say what version you are using or what operating system.
Is this the first time you have tried a dropshadow on text, or has it worked
before?
Does it just happen with text or does it happen with all objects you apply a
shadow to?

Anyway, it sounds like an incompatibility with the graphics card to me.
You can try updating your graphics driver.

Disable hardware acceleration.
(On XP, right click on the desktop, choose Properties, then the settings
tab, advanced button and troubleshoot tab. You can adjust the slider there
or disable write combining to see if that changes anything.)

Convert the text to curves before applying drop shadows.
This will make the text a little thicker, but it may be a way to get around
the problem.
