AIX 5.1 and 5.3 Socket Program Issue

Author: Kiran Kumar.M.R
Date: Jul 22, 2008 09:55

Hi,

Our product uses a file transfer module which uses TCP sockets to
transfer data.
This code was developed on SUSE9 32 bit and ported to AIX-64bit (5.1
and 5.3), HP-UX 64 bit and SUSE 10 64bit.

The file transfer module is working on SUSE9,10 and HP-UX without any
issues.
Only on AIX 5.1 and 5.3 we are facing issues.

The overview of the modules is as follows:

Server( Reciever)
s1) Opens a socket, sets following options
- SO_REUSEADDR
- SO_RCVBUF & SO_SNDBUF - 1MB
- SO_SNDTIMEO & SO_RCVTIMEO - 5 seconds
s2) call bind() to a port
s3) call listen() to check for incoming connections
s4) if listen() is success call accept() to accept the connection
s5) Recive file chunks by calling recieve() system call

How to write files from AIX 4.2.1 to Windows?

Author: gphaedrus
Date: Jul 20, 2008 20:52

I'm wanting to write files each night from an RS/6000 running AIX
4.2.1 to a machine in my Windows domain. I have samba set up on the
AIX box, and Windows users can happily access the AIX box but am
having issues when wanting to write files in the other direction.

From searching around the net I can't find any information that looks
particularly helpful for me as a 4.2.1 user. I would think installing
CIFS support would be the simplest way to do this, and found some info
stating I can install CIFS from the installation CD but I can't find
any CIFS stuff on my install discs and I'm thinking perhaps it wasn't
part of the install discs in 4.2.1

Does this sound reasonable? Would CIFS be the obvious way to mount a
Windows share under AIX? Is this possible in AIX 4.2.1? If so, can I
download the CIFS install material from somewhere or is it on the
discs and I'm just not looking hard enough?

I also found stuff about Fast Connect that looked helpful, but it
doesn't look like that is supported under 4.2.1

Anyway, if someone has any suggestions it would be greatly
appreciated... also, it does look like CIFS is not already
installed... I had thought to check that

  CacheFS Write-back option?

Author: yoyoma
Date: Jul 17, 2008 08:58

Is there any way to have AIX CacheFS working in write-back mode?

I wish for writes to the cache to take place locally and have the system
transfer to the server on the backend, thus giving write performance. I
realize this would introduce possiblilty of inconsistancy in the cache
vs. server, if the write were to succeed on the cache and not succeed on
the server for whatever reason, in this case the applicaiton writing
would not be informed of such a failure.

I have tried the non-shared mount option which causes writes to both
local and remote when you write, but it still waits for the remote write
to finished before releaseing the application doing the writing.

It doesn't even have to be CacheFS, but I've looked at various other
technologies, but none seem to suit my needs. I want read and write
performance of a remote filesystem. No files are ever deleted, only new
files written.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Need help setting up OpenSSH on 4.3.3

Author: Michael W. Ryder
Date: Jul 16, 2008 21:19

I think I have OpenSSH running properly on a test computer running
4.3.3. I created a key for root and saved the files in /.ssh. When I
try to log in from a Windows XP computer using Putty it seems to be
working as Putty shows a key from the RS6000. I am not sure how to make
sure that it is the correct key but I accept it. I then try to log in
using root and the password but it is rejected.
Perusing various web sites and O'Reilly's SSH book haven't given me any
clue as to what I should do next. Any ideas or clues?

According to lslparutil on my HMC Not Activated LPARs allocate ressources

Author: Peter
Date: Jul 16, 2008 05:17

Hi

I trying to find out how many free ressources (procs and memory) I
have left on my P590 box. My HMC is on version 6.1.3.

As far as I can see, the ressources from previously "Running" LPARs
that are now "Not Activated" are not released when the LPARs are
stopped.

First I check that the LPARs is "Not Activated":

lssyscfg -r lpar -m p590-M9-9119-590-SN5163FAD --filter "lpar_ids=28"
--header -F lpar_id,state
lpar_id,state
28,Not Activated

I then issue the next command to se how much procs + memory the LPAR
is currently using:

lslparutil -r lpar -m p590-M9-9119-590-SN5163FAD --filter
"lpar_ids=28" --header -F lpar_id,curr_proc_units,curr_mem
lpar_id,curr_proc_units,curr_mem
28,0.3,21248

Release of Firefox 2.0.0.16 and Seamonkey 1.1.11 for AIX

Author: Uli Link
Date: Jul 15, 2008 07:13

Hello,

Firefox 2.0.0.16
<http://www.linkitup.de/ForAIX/Firefox/>
and
Seamonkey 1.1.11
<http://www.linkitup.de/ForAIX/Mozilla/>
are available at the usual place.

For the first time I also provide GTK2 builds with SVG support on AIX5L
or higher in addition to the traditional GTK1/AIX 4.3.3 builds.
If you have the IBM Firefox running, my GTK2/AIX5L builds should run
without further tweaks.

The last days I tried thoroughly testing Seamonkey and Firefox on AIX
5.1 on a minimal configuration also for determining the runtime
dependencies, as the build time environment is much more complex.
But as always feedback and test reports are welcome. I don't have tested
on AIX 5.3 or 6.1, but I expect it will work the same as it always did
before.
