Re: Recommended patch cluster + Solaris releases - any difference?

|Solaris 10 which has had the latest Recommended Patch Cluster
|installed?

Yes - not only are some new features provided only in new packages in
update releases, the update releases also include many more patches than
are in just the Recommended Patch Cluster.

  Solaris as a kickstart server

Author: lax
Date: Jan 28, 2008 15:18

Has anyone used Solaris 10 as a Redhat Linux kickstart server?

How would I set up bootparamd to accommodate for a kickstart install
of RHEL v4.6 WS? or is this possible?

The "Solaris Patch Management: Recommended Strategy" whitepaper says
that some patches add new features as well as fixing bugs and security
issues. So do I understand correctly that a later release of the
operating system will add even more features on top of this?

  LDAP Lockout

Is anyone running LDAP on Solaris in a way that an LDAP lockout is
propgated network-wide, or is there a feature in LDAP for doing this?

Thanks

  Windows won't resize

Author: Monty
Date: Jan 24, 2008 10:12

I have a Solaris 8 system running CDE that's developed a peculiar
problem: windows are very difficult to move unless the movement is
done slowly, otherwise the window will snap itself down on to the
desktop. Also, I can't resize the window; I can begin to drag and get
the wireframe, but after only a line it snaps back to its original
size.

Has anyone else run into this and what could be the possible reasons
for this?

Thanks

I have to create raw partitions for sybase server.

DBA wants me to create a directory and create a symbolic link to a raw
partition, will that work?

i would appreciate any input on this.

  Troubleshooting an L100 Tape Library

Author: Patrick
Date: Jan 18, 2008 14:40

Been all over the Web trying to find answers and they are few and far
between concerning this little monster. Hoping maybe someone in Usenet
might know.

I followed the user's guide for installing this new machine to a "T".
Every time the machine is turned on it initializes and freezes upon an
error:
CHK 2635
Library.c
Line 4231
Path 0000

I checked all the power cords and cables and re-sat the tape libraries
located in the back. The owners manual section on fault codes list
this as a Z-axis issue. Here's exactly what the FSC states:
"FSC_SERVO_Z_FRICTION_TOO_HIGH"

and
"The Z axis friction is too high for normal operation"

Problem is, I have no idea what that means.. and technical support
costs too much to call. :(
