  raidctl command defaults changed

Author: ChrisS
Date: Jul 21, 2008 12:45

I've noted in all the Sun Fire T2000 documentation that running the
Solaris command "raidctl" without options would display the health of
the volume/disks. As of Solaris 10 (8/07) this is no longer the case,
and Sun support has confirmed this.

You must now run the command with these arguments to display the
health status:

raidctl -l

# raidctl -l c0t0d0
Volume Size Stripe Status Cache RAID
Sub Size Level
Disk
----------------------------------------------------------------
c0t0d0 68.3G N/A OPTIMAL OFF RAID1
0.0.0 68.3G GOOD
0.1.0 68.3G GOOD

  RAID-Z Solaris 10

Author: brad

Hi,

I'm running Solaris 10 Sparc and had set up a RAID-Z in a zpool I have
with 4 disks and 1 spare.
Somehow I noticed that the raidz I had previously created has
disappeared.
When I perform a zpool status I see something like:
pool: myPool
state: ONLINE
scrub: none requested
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
myPool ONLINE 0 0 0
c1t2d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
c1t3d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
c1t4d0 ONLINE 0 0 0
c1t5d0 ONLINE 0 0 0

  Solaris 10 on W2100z workstation

Author: SQ
Date: Jul 16, 2008 07:52

I am looking to buy W2100z workstation. I want to run solaris 10 on
it.
I realize it's a few years old from 2004.

Is it a good machine to get or should I look for a newer workstation?

I realize that Ultra 40 is not a SCSI machine (Or is it?) And is it
that much better?

  Script to check passwd

Author: littlehelphere

I am looking for a tool or script that check the NIS passwd map and
notifies me if the passwd is missing or if there are duplicate IDs. I
know when you run a make you get some error messages, but I would like
a proactive tool. Any ideas?

  Solaris IPSEC question

Author: pavelj
Date: Jul 4, 2008 05:30

Hi guys.
I need to setup IPSEC between about 12 solaris hosts(with zones on
them) and about 4 Windows boxes within a closed network.
As far as I've learned from the sun docs my best option is to setup
ipsec with keys interchange (eq each host generates a key and it
should be loaded to every other host).
I've found a single example within /etc/ike/ike.conf describing
defenition of multicast IPSEC rule.
Is it possible to create a multicast rule that way so every 2 hosts
communicating will use different set of keys(the one previously
generated).
Or do i have to define a separate rule for every pair of host.
If you can point me to some material or an example of multicast ipsec
in solaris it will be gr8.
Thanks in advance.

  Jumpstart fails

Author: explor
Date: Jun 30, 2008 10:57

Hi Gurus,
I'm trying jumpstart T2K server and it fails with following error:

{0} ok boot /pci@780/pci@0/pci@1/network@0 -s
Boot device: /pci@780/pci@0/pci@1/network@0 File and args: -s
Manual Configuration: Host IP, boot server and filename must be
specified
ERROR: boot-read fail

I checked the show-nets and watch-nets to make sure the NIC is
connected and has the right MAC address defined in the jumpstart
server.

{0} ok cd /pci@780/pci@0/pci@1/network@0
{0} ok .properties
local-mac-address 00 14 4f 82 41 46
mac-addresses 00 14 4f 82 41 46

grep t2k1 /etc/ethers
00:14:4f:82:41:46 t2k1.domain.com

Jumpstart server is fine.

  netatalk 2.0.3 on Solaris 10

Author: Frank Winkler
Date: Jun 30, 2008 09:13

Hi there !

After some trouble , I finally got netatalk 2.0.3 compiled and installed
(Solaris 10u5 on a X4140) but its kernel module fails to load. Basically,
things are as described on

http://www.unixzone.dk/unix/20060122/appletalk-on-solaris

I had to do a little more to get it compiled and "make kinstall" didn't
work - so I copied ddp and ddp.conf manually and issued the remaining
commands from the Makefile. The error message is exactly the same as
mentioned on the page (relocation error) and ...

... I was hoping that a reboot might help but this was a bad idea. It
started with "Couldn't configure IPv4 interface nge0", and Solaris seemed
to be completely corrupted. I can't see a direkt link between the two
things ...

Anybody git that running?

TIA

fw
