Address book capacity or amount of memory per entry

Author: cinnamngrl

I am working on a project that would add a shared database of contacts
to a variety of handhelds.

After searching this forum and others I can see that the address book
capacity seems dependent on the onboard memory.

Can any tell me or direct me to an estimate of the amount of handheld
memory required per contact?

Ideally, I would like to get the memory per contact and the memory per
contact w/attached photo.

right now the database is Name, home address, DOB, notes, and
User1-3. Adding a photo is kind of pie in the sky considering that I
don't have the photo files yet, but it seems a natural evolution of my
project so...

Palm Treo 680's Chinese and English datas + HotSync + Mac OS X?

Author: Ant
Date: Sep 9, 2008 21:56

Hello!

I am wondering if it is safe to get an Apple MacBook Pro for a client
who uses a Palm Treo 680 with English and Chinese datas (with CJKOS --
http://www.dyts.com/en/cjkos.html ). Currently, he uses his Windows
2000 SP4 on his old Dell Optiplex PC and Hotsync (via USB) his datas.
It has MS IME and TwinBridge to read and write Chinese characters.

Is he going to have any problems if he were to buy a new MacBook Pro
with the latest Mac OS X? I read that he will need a third party
softwares (Missing Sync for Palm v6.0 --
http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php [not free] and Palm
Encoding Setup -- http://lokiware.info/Palm-Encoding-Setup ). I was
told that using Palm Desktop is messy and complex. Also, is it safe to
mix both PC and Mac to share Palm datas? All these third parties and
fancy setups seems complex for a guy who doesn't know computers well.
:(

Fatal Alert in HHeld's Address Book

Author: Nancy Ballinger
Date: Sep 4, 2008 22:35

On my SJ22/U running Palm OS 4.1 is this: I get this message when trying to
open the handheld's address book:

Fatal Alert

MemoryMgr.cLine:4365,NULL handle.

Reset.

I've done a soft and a hard reset. I've sent the device back to the vendor
(it was used): I'm not fully certain that it was replaced but it allegedly
was. I've also re-installed the Desktop and HotSynk software.

Any Clues are Much Appreciated.?

  [Q] PODS not working?

Author: WK2
Date: Sep 2, 2008 15:27

Hello all,

I recently downloaded PODS, Garnet OS Development Suite, ver
1.2.1.02. Installed on my Vista home premium, which already have
Cygwin -- thus skipping installation of Cygwin when I ran PODS
installation.

After several hours of googling and fiddling with it, I managed to
compile .prc file with sample, but I can't get the IDE to launch to
Palm simulator (and emulator) for debugging.

It launches simulator or emulator fine, but after I click "Ok" to this
dialog box:
The selected Target Environment is being launched. Press OK when it is
being launched, or Cancel to stop the debug session.

I get this:
Launching (Error: Unable to launch Target Environment)

At this point, simulator/emulator is running, but no application is
deployed to it, and the sim/emul is just showing initial screen of
"preference setting."

ssh on a Treo 680 (or similar)

Author: tinnews

Is it fairly easy to get a version of ssh to run on a Treo 680? Given
that and a mobile data connection I can the presumably access the same
places that I log in to from my home computer using ssh.

Are there any better solutions for mobile phone ssh access? That is
'better' in the sense of similar price/size but better in ease of use,
durability, robustness, whatever.

  Palm to iPhone migration resource

Author: jfaughnan
Date: Aug 19, 2008 13:51

I'm a longtime Palm veteran. Not quite PalmPilot, but definitely early
Palm III. I've owned at least seven, and my wife has owned at least 4.

I've been a big DateBk fan for years.

I've migrated to the iPhone, but I still sync an old Tungsten E|2 to
Outlook/Exchange at work. The iPhone migration makes clear how
brilliant the original Palm design philosophy was. There are many
things the iPhone struggles to do that my first Palm did exceedingly
well.

If you're someone who, like me, feels compelled to switch (maybe an OS
X user, Palm pretty much abandoned us), or if you'd like something to
show Windows Palm users to prove that they should stay where they are,
I wrote a summary post about my transition:

http://tech.kateva.org/2008/08/palm-to-iphone-summary.html

The summary post references may other posts for more detail.

To put it mildly, it was a tough transition. If you're happy with your
Palm today you don't want to try this move!

Palm III. Can I still get a 3.5 or 4.1 upgrade.

Author:
Date: Aug 18, 2008 10:58

Hi,

I have an old Palm III, that I want to use as a DataLogger for my car. I've
found the relevant cables and software, but it needs a minimum OS of 3.5.

It looks like Palm pulled these upgrades a long time ago.

Are there any alternate sources.

Cheers.
