Precision color calibration and LCD displays

Author: isw
Date: Aug 11, 2008 09:49

Trying to do a precision color calibration on a flat panel display, I
cannot get the "gray square with the oval in it" anywhere near dark
enough. I've calibrated plenty of CRTs, and I realize that there is a
basic difference between the way a CRT and an LCD work (one produces
light, the other merely valves it), but still, is there any way to get a
decent calibration on the flat ones? Adjusting brightness and contrast
on the monitor is completely ineffective.

Camcorder: Record to MacBook's harddisk instead of miniDV?

Author: H Jochim
Date: Jul 10, 2008 03:54

Hi *,

I am newbie as far as camcorders are concerned. Right now I sit in front
of a Sony DCR-VX1000E (miniDV-based) which is connected to my MacBook
via Firewire.

What I want is to record the Sony's video/audio signal directly to my
MacBook's harddisk instead of the miniDV cassette.

So I installed iMovie (6.0.1), created a new project (tried "DV" and
"MPEG-4") and hit the "Import" button. Recording started an all seemed
to work fine until after about 3-4 minutes recording suddenly stopped.

So now I have a 3-4 minutes clip in iMovie which is fine ... but
nevertheless only 3-4 minutes long. What I want one clip with 45-60
minutes without having to use the miniDV.

I have searched discussions.apple.com and this seems a known problem.
But actually I have not found any workarounds or other hints.

Any tips?
TIA

Mac Studio Display 21" CRT on PC

Author: macman
Date: May 29, 2008 16:06

I have recently bought a used Mac Studio Display 21" Blueberry for my
PC. It came as a bare monitor with no drivers/software.

On connecting it to my PC it works OK, but I cannot adjust the display
size and centering. There is a big black border around it.

A quick Google search suggests that the monitor settings are in
software (Mac only) which obviously I don't have. But there is also
mention of the button on the front left of the monitor for giving
access to an on-screen display.

The button on mine doesn't do anything.

Help!

(the display is breathtakingly good so I don't want to give up with it
unless I have to!)
