I am asking a serious question. When will those posts go
away?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
It's annoying me as they are hindering my ability to see my REAL
posts.
I feel like infecting hip-crime with trojan horse that will steal all
their info -- including credit card numbers -- and give it to the rest
of the world. I want to burn hip-crime with oxyacetylene flames and
cause them grave-suffering. I want to burn the skins of whoever runs
hipcrime. I want to turn their skins into white foam by thermally-
denaturing their skins with oxyacetylene flames. I hope someone --
with less control over their anger than me -- sets hipcrime's
personnel on fire and gives them a slow, painful, yet sure way out of
existence.

Spiderweb Software, the maker of many fine fantasy role-playing
adventures for the Macintosh, has just upgraded Avernum 4 to v1.1.
The new version is Universal and will run natively on Intel
Macintoshes.
Avernum 4 is an enormous fantasy role-playing adventure. Wander the
strange, subterranean world of Avernum, full of multitudes of
characters, hundreds of side quests, and traps, tricks, and treasure
in every corner. Experience the life of an adventurer: the fame, the
wealth, the hapless townsfolk begging you for help at every turn!
This epic tale is guaranteed to give you weeks of entertainment, with
an impossibly huge world that dares you to uncover all of its
secrets. Previous experience with the Avernum games is in no way
necessary to enjoy Avernum 4.

RESULT
comp.sys.mac.games.announce will be removed
The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 11 Dec 2006 initiated a five-day
period for final comments. Following the comment period, the Big-8
Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup
comp.sys.mac.games.announce.
This group will be removed on 15 Jan 2007.
RATIONALE: remove comp.sys.mac.games.announce
comp.sys.mac.games.announce was always a low volume group, but then all
approvals ceased for two years. I contacted Christina Schulman,
proponent for the comp.sys.mac.games.* reorganization and moderator at
that time, and she agreed to turn moderation over to me. Since I took
over moderation in December 2001 there have been fewer than 10
acceptable submissions in the best month, and many months there are no
submissions. Christina Schulman agrees that since the group is not being
used it should be removed cleanly and noted that most Mac game
announcements are probably being made via RSS feeds rather than through
newsgroups. Users would be better served to post their announcements to
whichever of the following is most appropriate to the announcement:

Geneforge 4: Rebellion
A Fantasy Role-Playing Adventure for Macintosh
Spiderweb Software, makers of the award-winning Avernum and Geneforge
series, announces the release of Geneforge 4: Rebellion, the next
chapter in their fantasy epic. Once again, return to the world of the
Shapers, where you will explore a vast world, choose what side you
will fight for, and create and mold your own army of strange,
powerful monsters.
The Shapers have the ability to create life, in any form they choose.
They can make plants to grow in harsh wastelands, living tools that
obey their commands, and powerful monsters to crush any who oppose
them. They jealously guard their powers and destroy any who question
their will.
Or so they did. Then the revolution came.

We at Spiderweb Software are simple people. Creatures of habit. It
takes a lot of work and concentration to make fun role-playing games
year in and year out, and we just can't work up the energy for cool
marketing ideas. So, every year, we just have the same old sale and
hope that it makes people like us more.
So, for the whole month of October, we are having our Force of Habit
Sale! Everything we sell, the games, the hint books, the bundles,
it's all ten percent off. The stuff that's on sale is now more on
sale. The award-winning Avernum and Geneforge games, all on the cheap!
Not only that, but all of our games are available on CD. Think of it!
Get the holiday shopping for your gamer friends done early!
As always, you can find all of the fun at
http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com
Big, free demos of all of our games are available. And hopefully you
can forgive us for being so predictable.

Boka Battleships 2.1 is now available.
Improvements include: hidden ships are now revealed at the end of the
game; the keyboard can now be used to enter a guess; shortcut keys for
the Done and Random buttons; and bug fixes for the Connect to Server
dialog (under Mac OS X).
Battleship is a strategy game where two enemy players attempt to
destroy each others' fleets, by guessing the position of their enemy's
ships. Boka Battleships is a Macintosh implementation of this classic
strategy game. It includes 7 different levels of computer opponents (4
if unregistered), ranging from 'Little Johnnie' to 'The Grand Master'.
It also allows two human opponents to play each other, either on the
same computer or two Mac OS X computers connected by a Local Area
Network.
It can be downloaded from:
