That get's it installed. But then it doesn't do anything!

Weeks and weeks after installing it along with Firefox 3 (and agreeing
to updates as they are announced) it still hasn't done anything.

With a new window,
Tools > Adblock Plus
brings up a preference window and that invites me to tell it what to do!
How should I know?
