Oh man, that is very exciting news: Mail has finally caught up with
Outlook Express. It has only taken Apple 10 years...

actually, it's a whole lot older
-- roughly fifteen years. just look
at the similarities between mail in nextstep and mail in os x 10.0.
it's just a later release of the original nextmail.

true, but so what? the app existed long before apple bought it and
there wasn't a whole lot different between nextmail and the first
version of apple mail (or a lot of the other parts of os x too for that
matter).

the day mail catches up with OE will be time to find a nice remote
island to hide away on, and stock up with ammunition.

If we are using outdated, archaic POP3 instead of IMAP on our ISP, the
number one reason for it is basically Outlook Express and its horrible
IMAP implementation.
Pegasus, Eudora/Win, The Bat, the plain Outlook are OK but I can't
believe one compares Apple mail to Outlook express.

For people missing the nextstep mail there is one open source, free and
native (totally native!) mail client available.
http://www.collaboration-world.com/gnumail/
It is named "GNU mail" but it is not some nerd thing. In fact it is
easier than Mail.app.
It runs on OS X and Linux OpenSTEP (e.g. windowmaker) _only_.

We're getting way too hung up in semantics, in my opinion. If OE had
this feature in 1997, then Apple was 10 years behind.
