I have a total of 1 GB of RAM on my G4, and I want to add more. I would
like to max out if I can but I am having problems and I'd appreciate a
hint as to which way to go. Please.
When I add a 500 MB stick, I can operate for maybe half an hour and then
the machine just freezes on me. All I can do is power it down and up
again, and then it seems to be happy because it will stay operating for
days if I have something that takes that long. When it powers down, it
is not even a matter of two apps running; even one application running
will be enough to lock it up.
When I add the second stick, I get the black multilingual screen that
terrifies me. I know that this is a bad thing and I know that I had
better get the extra RAM out of there then.
Is there a method or maybe a software program that I can use to set
this up or to determine what the problem might be? I am hoping that the
problem is not with the fact that I am trying to add more RAM; is there
some change I need to make to something so that the Mac runs happily
with extra RAM?

Is there a global pref or other setting for *globally* changing the font
size for file lists in all Finder windows (in List View, that is)?
I know about Show View Options
-- but selecting a window, changing font
size, and selecting All Windows just doesn't seem to do it for *all*
Finder windows . . . ?

PayPal: Steer clear of Safari
http://www.macworld.com/article/132285/2008/02/paypal.html
If you're using Apple's Safari browser, PayPal has some advice for you:
Drop it, at least if you want to avoid online fraud.
Safari doesn't make PayPal's list of recommended browsers because it
doesn't have two important anti-phishing security features, according to
Michael Barrett, PayPal's chief information security officer.
"Apple, unfortunately, is lagging behind what they need to do, to
protect their customers," Barrett said in an interview. "Our
recommendation at this point, to our customers, is use Internet Explorer
7 or 8 when it comes out, or Firefox 2 or Firefox 3, or indeed Opera."
Safari is the default browser on Apple's Macintosh computers and the
iPhone, but it is also available for the PC. Both Firefox and Opera run
on the Mac.

I accepted the latest iphoto update and now I don't seem to be able to
click below the image and add keywords, or change the name (which I
previously could).
Am I missing something?

Netcom3(tm) is a recognized global leader in internet security software.
With Netcom3 Internet Security Suite, it's key focus is on securing
sensitive consumer online interactions, as well as prevent and remove
Spyware, Adware, optimize, fix PC errors, and make your system run
faster and error free. Netcom3 Internet Security Software will speed
up your computer, detects and removes spyware and adware, Viruses,
Trojans, Dialers, Worms and a host of other dangerous parasites. It
automatically detects and corrects the most common problems including:
run time errors, corrupt files, invalid paths, fonts, file types,
CLSID, DLLs, sound, help files, shell extensions, AppEvents, class
keys and many more. Just like with a car your PC needs software
maintenance to keep it running smoothly like the first time you booted
your pc. A common cause of Windows crashes, error messages and
performance problems are the result of registry inconsistencies.
Netcom3(tm) Windows registry cleaner can fix these problems for you and
make your PC run smoothly again. Firewall and a good anti-virus
product are important. But these alone won't protect you from
intrusive spyware or keep your PC optimized for peak performance. This
is why Netcom3 Internet Security Suite has been developed to be the
perfect support for Windows PCs. ...

It's a network drive (NAS) so you can do whatever you want with it.
Give it a public static IP address and a strong password so your laptop
can offload photos to it as you travel the world. Or, give it a local
IP address and it's safe from the outside world on your local network.
The limiting factor is that wireless network drives are usually
extremely slow. This is probably why Apple is selling it as a backup
drive rather than an interactive drive.
The advantage is that a wireless NAS can be kept with your valuables in
a separate room. The odds of you still having your data after a
disaster are higher.

I've been using Firefox for a while, but I thought I'd give the new
Safari a try. Now, is there a Safari setting so that it shows the
target URL when I move the mouse pointer over a link? Firefox does
that, and I got used to it. Before I click a link I want to know what
(kind of) address is behind it, if it's a PDF, does it point to an
obscure URL, etc.
Safari should show me that target URL before I click the link. Is
there a setting to enable that?
Thanks!
Markus
