Is there a cheap way to scan a laserdisc cover and shrink it to fit on
a DvD container? My scanner isn't as big as a laserdisc cover.

I'm making backup copies of some of my favorite DVDs and have run into a
problem that I would like to solve.

First I rip the original DVD to my hard disk, then I burn a DVD in my
external LaCie CD/DVD burner. With larger size DVDs I get the process
where the ripped file is going through Compressing and Extracting, and
finally the burning process begins, at 10%% completion and it is always
10%% I get the following error message;

Sense Key = Medium Error
Sense Code = OxOC [not sure if these are the letter 'O' or the number
'0']
Write Error

The burn process stops and the incomplete disk is ejected. This has been
happening recently the drive did make complete DVDs in the past.

I can burn the same ripped file to my internal CD/DVD burner on my G4
PowerBook without any problems at all. If the ripped DVD file is not so
large that it needs Compressing and Extracting, the external drive can
complete burning a DVD.

Can anyone explain why I'm having the problem and if there is any
solution?

I may be needing to do some project planning at home under OS X and
was looking at OmniPlan and Merlin as the two most likely candidate
apps. The main requirement is that the application export to MS
Project format as this is a work project and needs to be sent back to
Windows-only environment.

I just wondered if anyone has used the two application in depth (and
in the real world) and can comment on the strength and weaknesses of
the two relative to one another. To me OmniPlan looks great and easy
to use where Merlin looks more like an 'industrial strength'
application. I don't really need to use heavy duty features as these
will all be added after the file has been converted to project format.

Anyone know how you can add a "view in separate window" to the
contextual menu that comes up with mouse on text window and control
click? Saving having to go to View menu? Have either forgotten or never
knew or it is not easily possible.
