leopard drivers / networked aio printer advice

Author: ed
Date: May 31, 2008 19:32

general question- looking at some reviews for a new aio printer /
scanner / copier, it seems like devices labeled 'mac compatible' are
sometimes not 'leopard compatible'. how often is driver compatibility
between different versions of os x an issue?

specific question- any recommendations for a network laser (well,
doesn't really have to be laser, but should have low consumable cost
(ie the inkjet hp l7680 seems to have really low consumable cost)) aio
that works well in leopard? don't need fax, but should print, scan,
and copy. and must be able to scan over the network (a lot of network
aio's can't scan over nework)? duplexer would be nice as well.

  Roku Netflix Box Arrived Today

Author: John
Date: May 31, 2008 13:13

Just got my new Roku box today. Seems to work great with video quality on
standard definition as good as or slightly better than my Apple TV. It has
no capability to play HD content however. It does not look as bad as it
does in the pictures though of course it is no match for the stylish Apple
TV. Menus are well thought out and probably even a little easier to
navigate than Apple TV 2.0 menus. It still has the SAME DISADVANTAGE that
Apple TV does in that you cannot turn the unit off without unplugging it.
An extremely shitty way to waste power.

All in all for 100 bucks an excellent buy. Of course in future years I am
sure we will see a move to HD by Netflix.

'May 31, 2008 (Computerworld) Microsoft Corp. will require hardware
makers to test their device drivers on Windows 7 to receive
certification for Windows Vista, according to documents posted on the
company's site.

In a long explanation (download PDF)of the Windows Logo Program,
Microsoft spelled out the new requirement. "Beginning with the release
of the first beta of the next operating system, all Windows Vista client
and Windows Server 2008 submissions must include a complete [set of]
test logs for the new beta OS," the company said in the document.'

IOW, it doesn't matter what you, the hardware maker want, you'll do it
Microsoft's way.

It's pretty amazing. What's MS interval? A patch every six years?
Yeah, that's about it. You're still wainting for that brand new os. :P

Doesn't Microsoft issue a lot of patches and fixes too?

  Which customer gets the gravey?

Which customer gets the best and latest components, and the best pricing?

A little bitty boutique company, that buys 3%% of a product.

Or a larger company that buys 60%% of that same product?
