OK, on a good VDU I notice the power/screen-save mode
time-out & re-activate toggles this. So I could just hack the
VDU's circuit to have it permanently 'on'.

VDU clicks/flashes to start-up in cold weather.

A PC & VDU seem to have related problems:

The VDU click-sounds & power-light-flashes at approx. 1 Hz before
it's usable. More so in colder weather. Now [in s. hemisphere winter]
it never reaches the threshold.

Q - is this apparent 'warm up threshold' adjustable inside the VDU ?

I've replace the VDU - for possible later summer use;
BUT the previously existing 'difficult to start PSU', now is a 'refusal to
start PSU'
-- also when I disconnect the replacement VDU.

Q - what tests/measurements can I make to debug this problem ?

== TIA

Hi everyone,

I am looking for sources of technical documentation for my new IBM
5110 :)
things on my list:
- getting an IBM 5106 external tape unit
- more info about the ieee-448 bus that might be on this machine
- all other things related to 51xx<5150

All help is welcome and thanks by forehand

greetings

KVM - 4port and up - cabling styles

I've been using an 8 port Iogear `Miniview Ultra' PS/2 KVM switch for
about 2 yrs. It has now developed a problem recognizing the
controlling keyboard (Yes I tried a new keyboard).

My question is really about the various kinds of KVM cabling but
before getting to that, anyone have some tips about diagnosing the
IOgear?

(Iogear is prepared to see if its fixable or replace it but that will
take a while)

Meantime I bought a 2 port Trendnet KVM to hobble along with for $31
including tax at radioshack.

Curiously I noticed the included cabling is quite different than that
on the Iogear. It has the expected VGA, mouse, keyboard plugs on one
end but only vga on the other so it has a total of 4 plugs on each
cable set. My old ones have a total of 6 plugs per set. Anyway, it
works just as expected and seems like a solid unit.

I thought maybe I'd just buy a new 4 port KVM with that style of
cabling ... its quite a lot tidier and less plugs to have trouble
with.
