And some of my friends want to put big Cuban flag on top of their building
:o))))
We have some crazy general who killed 4 people or more hiding in the woods,
escaping 300 soldiers and American security is worried. But I think that
nothing will happen to Bush and that everything will go well.
Well, Croatia is on the brink of becoming a member of the NATO...
Now maybe this is better then to invite Russians here hehe.
Drang Nach Osten 2.0 ?

heh, nobody answered...
I have some question for NATO experts. Please - just need some advice.
I have signed that petition for a referendum in Croatia - NATO or not NATO.
I would like to hear some thoughts why is good to be in NATO and why is not
good.

Yeah, it's really unfair that only the US had any military units *at
all* in Western Europe since WW2. You would somehow expect the
European partners to provide the majority of the combat units in the
ETO.
But no. Just like D-day and Enigma, the Americans had to go it all
alone.

You might have added a tag here for those who are a bit hazy
on their history :)
That said, it can't be denied the US more often than not went way
beyond and carried a bigger load than what would be considered fair by
an impartial observer.

The US got suckered into defending Europe by the western allies after WWII.
They pointed to the fact our isolation policies had led us into getting
involved in two world wars and convinced us we needed to be front and center
on the world's stage to play the role of the responsible parent to the
childish antics of the European powers.
Had we simply told them to go to hell, then most of Europe would have ended
up under the Soviet thumb. So getting involved did save Europe from
Communist rule. The problem is we are now firmly entrenched as the world's
police force and we have to shoulder the responsibility and blame for most
of the world's problems today.

I'd vote "AYE" for this part.

"Man will always be Man. We tried so hard to create a society that was
equal, where there'd be nothing to envy your neighbor. But there's
always something to envy: a smile; a friendship; something you don't
have and want to appropriate. In this world, even a Soviet one, there
will always be rich and poor; rich in gifts - poor in gifts, rich in
love - poor in love." - Comrade Commissar Danilov in "Enemy at the Gates"

Well the Euros were back on their feet by the early 60s, outproducing
and outnumbering the Soviet Bloc, so if there was a propitious time to
leave that was it. Same with S. Korea. And Bosnia, for chrissakes. The
US has, with our perpetual garrisons, been the Godfather of Socialism/
Secularism throughout the century, freeing dozen of nations from any
meaningful military expenditures and enabling imperialistic
bureaucracies and their statist schemes. Iraq has recently been been
ranked among the top 10 most socialistic countries in the world.
Bravo! And don't even get me started with Israel....
