"Crown of Glory:Emperor's Edition" naval combat testers wanted

Author: Gil R.
Date: Apr 30, 2008 20:33

Since Eddy is probably still recuperating from being dead I thought
I'd save him the trouble and post this myself:

As we move forward in the process of testing “Crown of Glory:
Emperor’s Edition” we would like to find some additional testers,
especially those interested in focusing on the new detailed naval
combat system. Whereas the original version of COG handled all naval
combat using our grid-based “quick combat” system, now the player will
have the opportunity to fight out naval battles ship by ship, gun by
gun. We have put great effort into achieving accuracy and
authenticity and a great level of detail, and testing results have
been positive so far. It would be very good, though, to get some
additional testers with expertise in naval combat of the period.

Just to whet your appetites a little... There will be the choice of
shooting at the sails or shooting at the hull, just as there will be a
choice of whether to use canister and try to target the crew...

Hi,

also known as "the game in desperate need of a short acronym"

Anyway, just another bog standard RTS or is there more wargaming meat
to this ?

  Wargamer: Napoleon 1813

Author: Jan Szkudliñski

Does anyone know whether this game has become abandonware?

I am immensly interested in a Napoleonic-era wargame on
operational-tactical level. Sadly, all the games seem to concentrate
either on strategic or tactical level only; I am not interested in a
game in which the campaign map is divided into "provinces". Wargamer:
Napoleon 1813 seems to be the only game which allows the player to
direct his armies on a campaign map and fight the battles on the
tactical level (In HPS campaigns the operational level seems to be only
sketchy.)

Jan Szkudlinski

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080428-malware-authors-turn-to-
eulas-to-protect-their-work.html

"Selling botnets for particular attacks, black markets for stolen
identities, and malware construction kits are all now par for the course
for the increasingly commercial malware industry. Discovering that
malware authors have actually turned to End-User License Agreements
(EULAs) in an attempt to protect their own intellectual property,
however, most definitely qualifies as something new, different, and
beautifully ironic."

...and...

"It's obviously difficult for the manufacturers of an illegal product to
threaten legal sanctions against an infringer, but the Zeus authors give
it their best shot. According to the EULA, 'In cases of violations of
the agreement and being detected, the client loses any technical
support. Moreover, the binary code of your bot will be immediately sent
to antivirus companies'."

Copy & Paste from the press release :

Features include:

defense, movement, initiative probability, and training.

· Play on the edge of your seat with a suspenseful battle
resolution system – Watch the push and pull of forces as the battle
unfolds that will make or break your plans resolve.

· Master critical Cavalry Scouting and Raiding and penetrate
deep into enemy territory - With the optional Fog of War rule, cavalry
scouting becomes even more important. The Confederate early war

My "sensibilization campaign" towards bugfixing in Harpoon ANW

Author: Vincenzo Beretta

I wupped it up in a couple of minutes while answering to the usual AGSI
drone "lecturing" about "ethics", but the result, accidentally, turned out
to be something too funny for words.

The thread is here (if it doesn't disappear overnight):
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=1789909

While the direct link to the "posters" is here:

Herman is still banned, BTW. I find interesting that a dude burning from
"righteous anger" towards a buglist and PDb does seem to avoid to speak
directly with him - right here on the NG, for example here, or on one of the
forums frequented by Herm. On a second thought, I'm not surprsed at all.

(From CSIPGA) StarForce employees editing Wikipedia entry

Author: Vincenzo Beretta

(Originally posted there by yaugin)

The company that has become as famous for its scandals as for its
invasive copy protection is apparently slow to learn. If you go over
to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarForce and look on the talk page,
you can read an admission from editor "Sopinsci" that he's a developer
for SF and you can see that he's been editing the page with a pro-SF
bias.

On the plus side, there's a lesson in karma here. Apparently, when you
act like a douchebag all the time, you stay awake at night wondering
how people are trashing you on the 'pedia.

computer programs for physical boardgames ie vassal etc.

Author: Tagula
Date: Apr 27, 2008 07:45

I own aide de camp 2 and I've downloaded Vassal, Cyberboard etc.. My problem is they seem so hard to get into.

i've been playing boradgames since 74 and computer ones from 84 and I've never had a problem with esoteric rules before.

I just can't seem to get a grasp on the mechanics of these games. At the risk of getting flamed, am I the only one who has

this problem? Even the placing of units to start a game is maddening to me. Thanks.
