MTW2 English, Patched to v1.2
Single player only. No computer problems.
I had MTW1 and was able to choose from 21? fractions. Now I can choose from
only 5 (But the box says I can choose from 21. How do I get to be able to
choose from 21?
I tried several cheats on lifting the FOG. Actually everything I could find
on the net. Can't do it. I'm probably screwing it up, But how?
Thanks

I think you need to win the campaign first, then the other factions are
unlocked.

You can do a manual unlock by editing a file (.ini or.txt if I
remember correctly) to move the factions from a lower section to the
upper section where the initially available factions are. You should
be able to find details via googling for something like mtw2 unlock
factions edit file

My best advice is to go to www.twcenter.net and to check/download some Mods.
Almost all of them unlock all the factions and add some new ones - beside
dramatically improving the playability. You could start with "Lands to
Conquer" (improved "vanilla" with some new campaigns - like the
Hundred-Years War) and "Deus Lo Vult" (my personal favourite); and check the
others, too. Stainless Steel is very good, they tell me, and so are various
AI enhancements mods. Chech the forums.

Don't mean to hijack your thread here, but I wanted to add a couple of
questions of my own.
When you're given a mission to "Annex" a particular city or castle how
do you do this? You can't take it by force to succeed, so do you
coerce the other faction to give it to you? If not, how?
Also, I've seen, when I've attacked a city, that they have attacked me
with canons firing flaming ammo. When my cities are attacked and I
have canon towers they only use regular ammo. How do I get them to use
flaming ammo?
Thanks!

I guess you just capture the city.
As for flaming ammo, you have to tell the units that can use it to use
it, it is an option on the screen during combat.

No, that doesn't work. You get a message saying someone else has
already captured the city so never mind... Doesn't make sense since
you're the one that captured it... but that's what you get. Maybe
bribe them into joining you? I just don't know.

No, I'm talking about the castle defenses themselves, not the
individual units. When you build enough your castles can have canon
towers, I don't know how to make them fire flaming ammo. Units are
easy but I don't know if you're able to make the canon towers do it.
The AI can but I don't know how to.

In either the mission briefing or in advice from the advisor there's a
suggestion of offering one or more of your unimportant cities in
exchange. I've never had this work, no matter what I offer.
I never seem to get very far with diplomacy anyway. About the most I can
get are trade rights and sometimes an exchange of maps. I rarely get
alliances and never ceasfires or getting the other side to become a
vassal, no matter how strong a position I'm in.
