HP Pavilion 524w's hang ups/lock ups.

Author: pavilion.524w
Date: Mar 22, 2008 17:19

Will be much indebted if a good techie/soul could give me useful
insights as to these endless hang ups/lock ups from my HP Pavilion
524w ... because I just can't function; PC is my CentCom.  Believe or
not, have been putting up with this crap for nearly three (3) months
now.  Argh!

SYMPTOMS

» The first sign of future hang ups --though these may still be hours
ahead-- is that after each boot up, the mouse pointer is jerky the
very first time one moves it.  It jumps anywhere from 1/4" to 2" or so
from its initial position (from wherever it landed after boot up) to
whatever direction I'm pointing it to.  Note it only does this one
time initially at the beginning of the session until the next boot
up.  From then onwards during any given session, the mouse is as
smooth as expected at all times.  This behavior occurs regardless of
the mouse used, either a Microsoft PS3 or a Microsoft wireless USB.

» Freezings occur when using any software that needs to scan.  The
worst are antivirus online scanning but lock ups also ocurr when
copying large files say, above, 50 MBs.

Power issue with hp pavilion zt3000

Author: Andy
Date: Mar 22, 2008 12:11

I own a HP Pavilion ZT 3000 and recently started experiencing some
weird power issues. I've tried several different batteries, but no
battery will last more than 38 minutes.

Here is what happened:
I replaced the original AC adapter
After the 2nd day of using this adapter, my computer dropped from a 2
hour battery life to 38 minutes
I replaced the AC adapted with the one from my docking station (still
the battery would not charge beyon 38 minutes even though it showed
100%% charge)
I purchased a new battery (same problem)
I replaced it with another battery (same problem)

Any ideas? Could the replacement AC adapter have messed up the
computer?

Problems connecting an old HP LaserJet 2100 to an XP Pro machine

Author: Henry Ross
Date: Mar 9, 2008 07:56

A colleague has just bought a new computer and is struggling to connect his
LaserJet 2100pcl6 (yes, I know it's old!). Because it only connects via an
LPT cable and the new machine doesn't have an LPT port, he's got hold of an
LPT-USB adaptor and plugged it into his USB port.

Windows XP Pro SP2 recognises it and prints a test page, but it won't print
anything else (such as a Word document). Under the properties he's selected
the USB port, and the print processor shows "WinPrint" and RAW data type.

Can anyone suggest what else he might be able to do to get this bloody thing
working, or is he going to have to buy a new printer?

Many thanks.
