Er, I don't use RO5.13, but I'm pretty sure your Configure application
should have an icon in it called 'Windows', which opens the option for
controlling desktop appearance. This has been the case since RISC OS 4
at least. I wonder if this omission is causing the problem?

There's no option to configure rub-out boxes behind icon text, however.
Are you sure this was present in RISC OS 4?

How strange. It's definitely there in RO 4.x (which I still use).

RO5 doesn't set WimpVisualFlags at all by default. It's only if you
install a plugin (e.g. MiscSetup by Paul Vigay - WinSetup file in
PreDesk) or manually create an obey file that anything will be in the
boot sequence.
