New Century Themes

Author: groups163

Just wanting to make the desktop a bit brighter and give it a change
for a while.

The "Infinity" theme from new-century.org.uk was good but it replaces
the toolbars without replacing the textures. How do I replace the
window/menu/iconbar textures?

Is it not possible to integrate this with the theme manager?

The other problem is "Steel" from LYM.iconbar.com produces yellow
boxes around text in the filer. Any chance of a fix/solution?

Not unless you give me more to go on. I don't see that here on VRPC.

Can you check that you're using the latest version of Steel, and have
the latest version of the Theme Manager installed. If you still get
the problem, let me know what OS you're using, and particularly if
you're trying out Fred Graute's improved Wimp module. It would also be
helpful to have a slightly more precise description of what's going
on.

Though it may be a problem with the Theme Manager, in the past minor
glitches have usually been caused by interaction with other software
in the !Boot sequence, such as MiscSetup. In general, the API for
visual window flags makes it very easy for other software to interfere
with Theme Manager's operation.

Infinity doesn't contain textures for 16M colour modes so that's most
likely what you're using. You could try creating the textures yourself
by making 16M colour versions of tile_1-16 and tile_m-16 using ChangeFSI
and adding then to the HiSprites file renamed as tile_1-32 and tile_m-32
respectively.

Which theme manager, Richard Goodwin's or Chris Wraight's?

It should be possible to add Infinity to either theme manager. I'm not
too familiar with Richard's these days but adding it to Chris' wouldn't
take more than a couple of minutes, assuming the author is in favour of
this.

It's as though the font manager isn't background blending - I thought
it did on RISC OS 5 (except the pinboard)?

Could you do as I suggested and try the latest version, 1.19, please?
You can find it at www.lym.iconbar.com/themes. If you get the same
problem with that, let me know.

Yes, same problem, and the Themes shows v1.07 from the !Boot display
menu.
