  Kyocera printing niggle

Author: Geoff Potter
Date: Jun 30, 2008 09:00

Just lately my Kyocera FS1750 has been churning out an extra page
after every print job with the following:

lpd: Job trailer
Date:

positioned about three-quarters of the way down. It does not appear to
happen on printing from 'foreign' operating systems...

Anybody any idea where it's emanating from and how to rid oneself of
it? I've tried all the menu operations on the printer (those that I
have found).

Another possibility is that a dipswitch has been moved but I have no
documentation nowadays. At least I can't find it...

Using Printers+ (1.91a), with PDF from Explan drivers (also using
standard PS PDF, just in case it was the Explan driver), on Riscos
4.39 using an SMC router with printer output.

Any other info on demand.

Thanks

I'm afraid I really don't like all the text on the site being centred.
I find it extremely awkward to read.

  OS2 & OS3 chips

Author: Dave
Date: Jun 26, 2008 13:46

The two A3Ks I brought down out of loft had expired. One didn't go at
all and the other had spilt it's battery everwhere. Before scrapping
them I extracted the OS2 and OS3 chips plus a controller chip? Are
they of any use to anyone. If so mail me your address and I'll post
them to you.

Dave.
ps. Probably posted in the wrong group again :-(

  Symbian being open sourced.

Author: jess

It appears that Nokia have purchased Symbian to make it open source.

If this proved to be the case, would this be of any use to RISC OS?

I'm thinking of a WINE style system to run Symbian Apps on RISC OS.
(Given the nature of mobile apps, running them similar to the
Dashboard on a Mac might be more sensible.)

I would recommend Ian Hamilton's Debatcher
http://www.hamiltoni.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/debatcher_v202.zip
which enables timed RSS fetches, when using Hermes. My copy is set to
420 minutes (7 hours) so that a fetch occurs when I go online in the
morning, and the next in late afternoon. For me, two RSS fetches each
day is adequate.

  The Computer Programme

Author: Tom Lean
Date: Jun 23, 2008 09:39

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone out there recalls watching the
"Computer Programme" (or one of its follow ups ) when it was on TV in
the early 1980s?

I'm doing a bit of research on the BBC Computer Literacy Project (the
project that begate the Beeb as I'm sure you all know...) for my PhD.
I've got quite a bit of material from the BBC's side of things but I'd
really like to balance it with some points of view of what the general
public thought of it.

Don't worry if you can't remember a lot, after 25 years I'm not
expecting you to remember every detail, but it would be really useful
for me to get some other opinions on it apart from those of Acorn and
the BBC. So if you watched it at the time and wouldn't mind sharing
your memories I'd be really pleased to hear from you!

There's some more info on my Phd project at
http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/postgrad/thomas.lean/ if you're
interested.

Cheers,

Tom
