  ssh freeze after authentication

Author: laurent User
Date: Jul 18, 2008 04:40

Hello,

I'm trying to use ssh to connect two computer on my local network ...
but something goes wrong.

The two computers are running Ubuntu 8.04.1 and both versions of ssh are:

OpenSSH_4.7p1 Debian-8ubuntu1.2, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007

When I try to use ssh from one computer to the other, the authentication
seems to work but ssh freeze before I get a working shell. When frozen,
I'm unable to stop it using ^C and I'm oblige to kill it from an other
window.

I join to this message the logs of the client and of the server. Any
insight would be appreciate as I'm totally lost.

P.S. I add below what I get after I kill ssh on the client side
(it may be helpfull)

debug1: channel 0: free: client-session, nchannels 1
debug3: channel 0: status: The following connections are open:
#0 client-session (t4 r0 i0/0 o0/0 fd 4/5 cfd -1)

debug3: channel 0: close_fds r 4 w 5 e 6 c -1
debug1: Killed by signal 15.

Getting ssh password from dialog box

Author: Robert S
Date: Jul 18, 2008 02:01

I'm trying to write a script that sets up a tunnel into a remote
system. Is there an easy way that I can pop up a dialog box to enter
the password so the user does not need to interact with a terminal?
I'd like to use zenity or something like that to display the dialog.

The login command looks like this:

ssh -C -g -L 3389:server:3389 user@remote-host.net.au

Telnet to Windows; Start Plink to another system fails

Author: lwilson

Hi All,

I have a script that telnets to a windows box, then starts plink to
open a com port on that server.

The issue is that the connection will only work if I type
Sloooooowly ... the script fails miserably with lots of garbage
characters being sent to the com port.

I tried telnet to the Windows box then using plink to telnet with the
same result.

Also, when it does work ... typing slow ... every key typed is echoed
back ...

Example:

# llss

instead of

# ls

Any help is greatly appreciated!

  Preventing Auto-Login

Author: c
Date: Jul 15, 2008 08:53

Folks,

We have some devious developers that use ssh between two Solaris
servers.

They run ssh-keygen -t rsa etc etc and set up their auto login between
the two servers.

Is there a setting in /etc/ssh/sshd_config that I can change to ALWAYS
ask for a password and prevent ssh from using public/private key
authentication ?

We'd ideally like to be able to rotate the passwords after the
developers leave and not leave this potiental for a back door into our
systems. Disabling ssh is not an option as we ( root users ) use it
all the time..

Bit new to this so please bear with me.

Thanks.

SSH libraries for antique Windows terminal application

Author: Nico Kadel-Garcia
Date: Jul 10, 2008 11:04

I'm dealing with an ancient Windows administrative tool that uses rsh
in a closed network. The codebase is in Borland C++: I'd love to
update it to use SSH, instead. Has anyone succeeded in integrating SSH
on top of ancient rsh or telnet applications, and can point me to
guidelines or good libraries for migrating such a tool to more secure
approach?

If I have to, I'll tunnel the rsh connections over Plink and restrict
rsh to localhost, but there are logs kept of the connections, and
using Plink would make the connections look like 'localhost'.

I'm going from Windows to Unix. ssh2 -i bansvr11.dmacc.edu.pub -l

But, the following does not:

C:\batuser\com.txt dmaccweb@bansvr11.dmacc.edu
SshFileCopy: Making local connection.

  XMing hangs over wireless connection

Author: Peter Payzant
Date: Jul 5, 2008 06:47

Hello-

(This was also posted on comp.windows.x - apologies if this
cross-posting offends anyone.)

I'm using XMing at home to connect to an Ubuntu platform. The Ubuntu
machine connects to the LAN via wireless.

I have two Windows XP machines using Xming. One has a wired connection
to the wireless router, and works fine. The other uses a wireless
connection to the LAN, and has problems.

From time to time, all the windows which the Ubuntu box has opened on
the wireless Windows machine freeze. They can be moved, but they don't
repaint if covered by other windows. And, of course, they don't accept
any input either from the mouse or the keyboard.

The only solution seems to be to restart Xming.

This has happened in two different locations using two different
wireless routers.

Any suggestions on how to debug this?

Thanks

Peter
