  Netbios over TCP/IP

Author: johnsuth
Date: Jul 31, 2008 00:58

I installed NetBT on Warp because Win XP x64 seems not to support non routable
Netbios which I have always used for file and printer sharing.

Whilst install went smoothly and sharing works well, an unwanted consequence is
the router opening the LAN to the internet very frequently.

Win firewall log tells me that Warp is sending a UDP subnet broadcast every
minute, which I assume is the trigger for opening the gateway. How might I stop
this?

Problem with InJoy PPP to Win2003

Author: Eagle
Date: Jul 25, 2008 18:29

Hello,

I need to have InJoy open a PPP connection across a null modem serial
line to get around an Ethernet driver problem for the time being. My
old Redhat linux machine that was kept as a backup for using pppd
had a hard drive crash. Sadly I'm trying to figure out the Microsoft
equivalents of such technology.

I finally found and supposedly set up RAS on W2K3. I can't tell if
there is any traffic on the Windows system. Injoy has been sending
traffic but not connecting to anything on the Windows side. It just
times out and eventually stops retrying.

Could someone that has made OS/2 talk to Windows over PPP
lend me a hand?

Thank you,

David

  eCSWare.org - Software for eComStation

Author: TheNerd
Date: Jul 24, 2008 16:06

Hello eComStation World!

I would like to let you all know that today I have launched a new
eComStation software website known as eCSWare.org. This site is a
place where members will be able to upload and download eCS related
software. There are many categories ranging from system and developer
tools to themes and icon sets.

The site is brand new and is seeking new members and contributers.
There have already been some files uploaded but I am sure there are a
great many useful pieces of software that need a place to live.
Currently the site is set to allow a max upload of 100 megabytes but
if you want to host something bigger contact me and I we can arrange
to host the file.

My hopes for this site are to create a service that is complimentary
to other eCS related services and websites already in existance and to
work with these resources to create a better overall eComStation
community. See you there!

APSoft / New PCMCIA driver support. Please answer if interested in renewed support !

Author: Aymeric Peyret
Date: Jul 20, 2008 20:09

Dear all,

APSoft (www.tssc.de) have not updated their driver for the last 4 years,
so many new PCMCIA/Cardbus/Expresscard chips are now unsupported or only
partially supported.

I have emailed them and they answered over the week-end. If you have,
like me, version 7 released in 2004 (or earlier) here is their answer:

"You likely have latest official release. We can, of course, re-release
product, if there is enough people interested in such release.
Please talk to OS/2 community. We will re-release if we have at least 30
licenses order."

I think that the price would be similar (~70 Euros).

Please answer to this thread if you are interested, so we can forward a
list of contacts to APSoft. I have posted the same announcement on
ecomstation.support.hardware, so please answer only once (either here or
there) to ease the counting.

Thank you all in advance for your answer. I hope we will get above the
30 positive answers ;)

  Another VIM for OS/2 Question

Author: jch

_____
Hello All OS/2 Users,

Now that i have vim working well under OS/2 Warp (fixpack 15, kernel
14.104a_W4), i wish to know how to set the system wide default behaviour
to open, say, a data file (such as config.sys) with vim.exe instead of
e.exe. I tried this already:
1) renamed e.exe to ee.exe, made copy of c:\vim\vim70vim.exe ->
c:\vim\vim70\e.exe. This works for command line invocation of e. It
does _not_ work when i double click on a data file that normally opens
with e.exe. It still opens with e.exe!
2) added a vim menu item in the Properties notebook page, and set the
default open action to point to vim. This works.

How do i make this happen for all regular "data files" that would
normally use e.exe?

  Formatting CD-RW

Author: johnsuth

I mostly have failures when formatting CR-RW discs in my Sony drive.

I noticed that the failure is associated with the IDE controller failing to
release the drive; the case LED stays on when the drive LED is off.

Your suggestions are welcome.

  Boot failure

Author: johnsuth
Date: Jul 19, 2008 19:51

I am returning to the task of making my new Windows box double as a standby for
my Warp box.

I solved the problem of the SCSI U320 driver not loading by installing an
Adaptec 29160N controller and reverting to the U160 driver which controlled this
hard drive in a previous box.

When I boot the hard drive the screen presents the following:-
System BIOS
SCSI BIOS
System config summary
Boot Manager
Recovery options
Basedevs
Config.sys reports
At this point I expect the display BIOS/driver to report but instead the system
hangs leaving nothing in popuplog.os2.

When I select F2 in the Recovery options, the Autocheck reports clean and the
system crashes leaving the following 4 entries in popuplog.os2.

  Opening a command window

Author: Jim Moe
Date: Jul 18, 2008 22:44

Hello,
I apparently changed a setting somehow...
Now, whenever I open a os/2 command window, it opens partially, not full
size, i.e., with scroll bars.
How do I change CMD windows default behavior to open maximized?
