Howto: get SSL access to news servers

Hi All

I'm a Giganews subscriber and they recently sent out a mail to all their
subscribers telling them that they had enabled access to their news servers over
SSL (nntps) and gave a list of SSL enabled news readers. I asked them whether
they'd help me to add SSL support to Pronews and they were very polite but
basically told me to go RTF the OpenSSL Manual. Not much use when you don't have
any idea of where to start... so I started to look at it and realised that their
instructions on how to use Stunnel under Windows could also apply for OS/2 since
we already have a port of Stunnel to OS/2 (Thanks Paul). Here's what I did to
get it to work for Pronews/2 - other newsreaders would be similarly easy to set
up.

1) Download the latest OS/2 port of Stunnel from
http://stunnel.mirt.net/downloads.html - I clicked the link to
ftp://stunnel.mirt.net/stunnel/contrib/os2 and grabbed stunnel-4.17-os2.zip
which appears to be the latest for OS/2 at present.

2) Unzip this somewhere - e.g. g:\stunnel

Hi Trevor,

that's cool, thanks for the instructions!

There is now a newer version on Paul Smedley's page:
http://smedley.info/os2ports/index.html
Until now I thought that STunnel was some kind of SDL-based game. So it
is actually useful for something. :-)
