  Pronews/2 v1.60 cp125 now available

Author: Trevor Hemsley
Date: Jul 19, 2008 12:37

I'm pleased to announce the release of Pronews/2 v1.60

Pronews/2 is a multithreaded NNTP Newsreader program for OS/2.

If you are upgrading from any Pronews/2 release prior to 1.59 you are strongly
advised to make a backup copy of the file \pronews\toolbar.ini as this release
changes the on-disk format of this file. You will not be able to run a previous
release of Pronews/2 unless you restore an old copy of this file.

If you are upgrading from a release prior to 1.54 then you are strongly urged to
backup your existing filter files as the files have a different on-disk format
from 1.54 onwards. Failure to backup files *.FLT in \pronews and
\pronews\headers will mean it will be impossible to use your filters if you
should need to revert to a release prior to 1.54. You should also read the
readme.txt file installed in the \pronews directory as this covers changes and
new features from prior releases as well as tips for making Pronews/2 quicker.

You can find Pronews/2 1.60 on ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming (later to be
ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/news/reader) as pn2v160.zip.

Pronews/2 is shareware and all profits from its sale are donated to the charity
Save the Children.

Media Player Connectivity: where to get?

Author: Arie Kazachin

Hello,

I recently attempted to replace the OLD flash 5 plugin (of Mozilla
Firebird) by GNASH and since it's standalone app as opposed to DLL,
it requires MPC as a "wrapper" (if I understand correctly).
I googled extensively for "MPC" in various forms, fould lots of
references to it but not a one location of it.

Where/how can I get the MPC?

TIA,

  CAD Program(s)

Which CAD program is currently recommended for eCS 1.2MR? I just downloaded
BlueCAD 1.0 from Hobbes which is from 1996. Which AutoCAD versions might run
under eCS, either natively, or in a DOS window?

Any others?

Certain files crash MPlayer, KMP drops audio

Author: Alex Taylor
Date: Jul 13, 2008 06:59

I have a number of video files that I'm trying to view in MPlayer and/or
KMP.

MPlayer simply can't get through them without crashing in decode_audio,
usually within a few minutes or even seconds.

KMP can play them for longer, but eventually the sound suddenly cuts out
and never comes back. (This usually seems to happen when the video hits
a point where it maxes out the load and stutters slightly.) Sometimes, KMP
crashes as well.

Is this likely an issue with the files, with MPlayer and KMP, or with my
sound driver (Uniaud 1.1.4 rc4)?

FWIW, here's the output from MPlayer:

MPlayer dev-SVN-r26012-OS2-3.3.5 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2.00GHz (Family: 6, Model: 13, Stepping:
8)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.

  eSeaMonkey 1.1.10 problem with PrefBar

Author: me
Date: Jul 3, 2008 10:24

I just downloaded and installed Peter's eSeaMonkey 1.1.10 and find a
problem with PrefBar. I cannot use PrefBar either from its bar or in the
Preferences_Advanced tab with 1.1.10, but closing 1.1.10 and then starting
1.1.9 PrefBar is fine in both places.

Anyone else seeing this problem? Is this a PrefBar or SeaMonkey bug? I
have PrefBar installed in the profile in case this matters.

  Gendatam Suite OS/2 version withdrawn

Author: Peter J Seymour
Date: Jun 30, 2008 00:54

Just a note that I was working on Gendatam Suite on a dual OS/2 -
Windows basis. The only difference was in the build process as the code
itself was pure java. However, I have had to abandon the IBM HPJ
compiler (necessitated by errors in the java version rather than by lack
of features) as it was based on too early a level of Java (1.1.4) and I
have moved to the Windows based Excelsior Jet compiler.
Just a thought though - has any one tried Jet-built executables uder
Odin. Probably not, but worth asking.
Regards
Peter

  MS VPC 2007

Author: johnsuth

On paper it looks as though MS VPC 2007 will run Warp MCP2 as a guest.

Have you seen it working?

Will it enable Warp to use installed hardware for which it has no drivers?

Thanks.
