  RESULT: comp.org.team-os2 will be removed

RESULT
comp.org.team-os2 will be removed

The Last Call for Comments (LCC) on 07 Feb 2007 initiated a five-day
period for final comments. Following the comment period, the Big-8
Management board has decided by consensus to remove the newsgroup
comp.org.team-os2.

This group will be removed on 20 Feb 2007.

RATIONALE: remove comp.org.team-os2

The newsgroup comp.org.team-os2 has not had any approved messages
since May 1998. In February 1998, the moderator posted that all
recent submissions were either spam or technical questions about OS/2
rather than advocacy of OS/2, and that she was seeking a replacement
moderator. In May 1998, along with the final approvals, the moderator
indicated that she had not found a replacement.

It is not clear that Team OS/2 still exists as a formal (or informal)
organization. The web page at http://www.teamos2.org/ is rudimentary.

The unmoderated newsgroup comp.os.os2.advocacy can be used for
advocacy posting about OS/2. The rest of the comp.os.os2.* hierarchy
may be used for discussion of technical issues about OS/2.

snug: I'v released a new version of MSS... go head spread it to the OS/2
world
snug: http://xelectrox.homeip.net/files/MSS.zip

SS is an abbreviation for Martin's Server Suit which currently consist
of Yet Another FTP Server and Snug HTTP server. Yet Another FTP Server
will be called YAFS from now on. Although YAFS and Snug HTTP server can
be used independent of each other, they function very well together to
run and maintain a small web site. MSS is a way of distribute them both
in a single package. MSS and its components was designed to run on old
operating system as well as on more recent releases. MSS can bring your
old hardware and software back to life again!

From: Mark Dodel DESPAMos2voice.org>

I was looking for an old IBM Employee Written Software (EWS) utility
called PMCamera and couldn't find it on Google, then I remembered that
there was a copy of EWS files on the VOICE FTP server. There are a
lot of interesting and useful applications there. You can access it
via anonymous FTP at ftp://os2voice.org/EWS/

  SigmaMD5 - French language available

Author: Keith
Date: Nov 22, 2006 08:07

As of today I the French languge files in the form of one DLL file and one

HLP have been uploaded to Hobbes and are currently residing in the

pub/incoming directory but will probably be moved to the /pub/os2/util/misc

area within the next few days.

The languge files are only suitable for SigmaMD5 ver 1.41 or higher.

SigmaMD5 Reads & Creates MD5 checksum files. Is compatable with the output

of Linux GNU MD5SUM and can check the eCs CD's for correct data using the

MD5 checksum list files on the CD's. Provides a clear visual indication of

checksum status (error's etc.) as well as error sorting, file filtering and

comprehensive logging facilities. Currently supports Chinese, Dutch,

English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish.

  RFD: remove comp.binaries.os2 moderated

Author: Jim Riley
Date: Oct 5, 2006 11:52

REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
remove comp.binaries.os2

This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup comp.binaries.os2.

RATIONALE: remove comp.binaries.os2

There have been no approved messages since July 1997.

Distribution of binary programs via Usenet, and in particular the Big
8 comp.binaries.* groups is no longer particularly useful or viable.
The binaries groups were created before there was widespread access to
the Internet, so that propagation of binaries via Usenet was a viable
alternative to distribution via floppies or other removal storage
media sent by mail.

Binaries newsgroups typically have very short expiration periods, so
someone interested in acquiring programs would have to constantly
monitor a newsgroup, or hope that the programs were archived so that
they can be accessed via the internet (such as by FTP). But if the
programs can be sent via internet, there is no need for the Usenet
alternative.

  SigmaMD5 - German Language Update

Author: Keith
Date: Aug 8, 2006 05:43

Until today the German help file was in English. It is now in German and has
been uploaded to Hobbes. It is currently in the directory \pub\incoming but
will be moved in the next few days most probably to \pub\os2\util\misc. The
filename is SigmaMD5v1.41DE.zip

Only the current SigmaDE.DLL and SigmaDE.HLP need to be replaced by the new
version. These files only work correctly with the current version of
SigmaMD5 which is version 1.41.

My thanks go to Artur S
