How to control a process execution?

Author: Alok Gupta
Date: Jan 17, 2007 09:18

Hi There,

I want to develop a small software which can control process execution
as AntiVirus does. That is as soon as any process start execution/
started /executed , my software will put this process in hanging and
display the process information on screen with option to kill it or
allow the execution.

I shall be thankful to you if you can help me in this.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Akg

  Getting some other icons

Author: gw7rib
Date: Jan 13, 2007 09:13

I'm using Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition. When I create a Windows
application it provides an icon and a small icon for me. However, they
are always the same - a picture of a window. I was hoping to use a
different icon, and was wondering if there were any handily around that
I could choose from.

Windows XP seems to have an array of icons (eg if you try setting up a
PIF there are a whole load of them, stored in PIFMGR.DLL). Can these
icons be extracted easily? What would I do about getting equivalent
small icons? Or is there another easy source of icons?

The help for Visual C++ suggests that there is a file containing icons
at Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\VS2005ImageLibrary\
. I can't find this, or anything like it - would I have to download it?
Would I have to pay for it?

And if this is not the right newsgroup for this sort of question, could
you point me to a more suitable one?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Paul.

Given the full path to a file, how can I tell Windows Explorer to (a) become
the front-most application and (b) open the folder the given file is in (thus
revealing it to the user)?

  Using Pipes

Author: davechandler
Date: Dec 18, 2006 16:13

Hi Everyone. This may be the wrong place to post this, but I don't
know where else to put it.

I'm looking into using a pipe to send data between two different
applications and I was wondering what I have to do to be able to send a
non-character message. Can I send an integer through the pipe? An
array? An object? What would I need to do to be able to write this
out and read it in on the other side. All examples I've looked at
simply send strings across.

Thanks for your help. I realize this is a pretty 'beginner' level
question but I'm stuck!

  Writing an uninstaller

Author: PGC
Date: Dec 18, 2006 10:46

Hi
I'm writing an application which needs an uninstall option.

I can set the registry values so the item appears in the Add/Remove Programs
applet.

The application exists in a single directory so what i need is advice or
pointers as to how i can write an application that can delete itself and the
directory it is currently in.
(IE. i need an app like "c:\program files\MyApp\uninstall.exe" which will
delete the "c:\program files\MyApp\" directory).

Thanks in Advance.

  Why only 50%% CPU usage?

Author: Jive Dadson

I am running Windows XP Pro, with all the latest updates.. My processor
is a Pentium D (dual core) 2.8GHz with 1G RAM. I have an application
that does pure computation, with no IO at all for long periods. It does
not use much memory either for program or data. I can tell it does not
hit the pagefile cache, because the hard disk stays completely inactive.
When nothing else is happening, the task manager performance meter
shows that the process is getting only 50%% of the CPU time, with the
other half going to the system idle process. If I invoke some other
program or activity, it zooms up to 100%% until the other activity
settles down. Then back to 50%%. Why is that, and is there anything I
can do about it? The program can grind away for hours. It would sure
be nice to...

  Cancel dialog without resource template?

Author: Paul J. Lucas

For a very simple program, it is possible to create a simple
dialog box that just contains a string and a Cancel buton
without having to use a resource template? I.e., something
like MessageBox(), but not modal.

  Rendering with IE engine?

Author: andrejohn.mas
Date: Dec 12, 2006 10:45

Hi,

I am wanting to write a small program that will pop-up a window with a
message in it. Ideally I would like this to be customisable, so I am
thinking of using an HTML format if I can. Is the rendering engine used
by IE available to applications? The idea being is if I could embed and
IE rendering component into my window, then I could offload the work to
that, instead of trying to recreate the wheel.

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks.
