I'm not trying to start a war. I'm just not sure if either group has
the whole the answer on its own.
Now, that the legal disclaimer is out of the way.......
Mac OS X is unix underneath the GUI, which is essentially what GNU/
Linux is. It seems like a short jump to make a version of iTunes
that runs on GNU/Linux. There are a number of GNU/Linux users who
have iPods. Is there a technical problem that Apple can not
overcome? Why don't they make a version of iTunes for GNU/Linux?
They are the number 2 electronic music retailer.

Why? Should they also make a version for people who run MS-DOS or the Atari
GEM? How about the guy using a VAX somewhere... should Apple make iTunes for
VAX users too?

I'm purely speculating, but I would guess that Apple (rightly or
wrongly) views Linux as a player in the server space, but not so much in
the home computer space where the primary iTunes customer resides.
I confess I could be ignorant of some technical issues, but I think it's
a good idea for them to do an iTunes for Linux. I don't really see a
downside to Apple, and it's a essentially giving more customers a direct
"storefront" to the iTMS for more sales.

For the same reason that the BBC is shunning Linux users with it's new
player.
The BBC discovered that the Linux desktop market share hovers around
0.8 percent or so.
