Linux 2.6.26-rc1

,----[ Quote ]
| Lots of changes, but nothing that really feels all that fragile to me.
| Famous last words. I expect that the x86 PAT support (which has been long
| in the making) has the potential to have some issues, but the obvious
| problems were hashed out long ago, and while the merge window already
| showed one bug, that one was fairly benign and quickly fixed.

The Progress Of X.Org 7.4

,----[ Quote ]
| If all goes according to plan, X.Org 7.4 will finally be released this month.
| This release isn't quite as elaborate as X.Org 7.3, which introduced input
| hot-plugging, EXA enhancements, and RandR 1.2 to just name a few features,
| but X.Org 7.4 is another update better enhancing this X server.

Cisco: Networking Is Hot Again

,----[ Quote ]
| Network operating systems are also keeping the networking market hot. Cisco
| has recently expanded its operating system lineup to now include IOS, NX-OS
| and Linux. IOS is Cisco's core internetworking operating system that powers
| many of its switches and routers, while NX-OS is a purpose built OS for
| Cisco's Nexus core switching platform.
|
| As for Linux, Cisco is using the open source operating system in various
| areas including the AXP module that turns ISR routers into Linux app servers.

CrossOver for BSD systems coming soon!

,----[ Quote ]
| Today a discussion started about the availability of CrossOver for BSD
| systems on the CodeWeavers mailing list... And most of last month I was away
| on vacation and somehow missed a post made by Jeremy White the founder and
| CEO of Codeweavers announcing the availability of CrossOver Games for BSD
| systems. Jeremy also let it be known that CrossOver Office 7 will be
| supported on BSD systems as well! Below is a quote of Jeremy's announce to

It's Time for PCWorld to Change Its Name

,----[ Quote ]
| For the past 20 years the words PC and Windows were almost synonymous. Ask
| someone what kind of computer they owned, and if they said, "I have a PC,"
| then you knew they didn't own a Mac or Linux computer.
|
| Times have changed. The Eee PC has taken the world by storm. Apple is
| resurging with full force. Linux is here to stay -- and can only grow in use
| on desktops, cell phones and other mobile devices.

With Wine 1.0 on its way maybe there will be 'Win-compatible PCs' (or
Win-compatibles), just like IBM-compatibles (before IBM sank).

LGP To Start Work On Another Game

,----[ Quote ]
| Linux Game Publishing is still in the middle of porting X3: Reunion and
| Bandits: Phoenix Rising to Linux, but they soon will be starting work on
| another title. This game coming to Linux, however, still isn't known. At the
| LGP website they will be showing one pixel of an image every second until the
| entire image has loaded. Once all pixels (or most of them) have been loaded,

Day 2 of the Novell v. SCO trial

,----[ Quote ]
| Is a license to Microsoft more valuable than what MS paid SCO? Perhaps so.
| Certainly Novell might think so.
|
| If the money paid to Novell comes up short, Novell has a few options. And, my
| bet is that some very interesting discussions take place in that back room
| between Novell and SUN and between Novell and Microsoft. Fly on that wall
| kind of thing.

Windows XP SP3 still officially AWOL, but can be found on BitTorrent, Microsoft
servers

,----[ Quote ]
| On Tuesday, in a low-key announcement on a support newsgroup, Microsoft said
| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
| it would delay the release of XP SP3 because of data corruption issues
| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
| between the updated operating system and its retail point-of-sale software.
`----

http://computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyName...

If it was non-Microsoft software that suffered from this, Microsoft would just
let it be. Microsoft doesn't give a bleep about 'third party' software.
