hi,
The reason debian does not allow graphical user windows system for
"root" (unlike Windows) is that lots of programs can run in the
foreground and background as "root".
So for each program you will have a wrapper program/GUI built in for
"kde".
Adept is the kde package manager (runs on UBUNTU/KUBUNTU) especially
if you use the Synaptic package manager command (aptget install kd34)
once.
Adept has a small tags / filter utility to display the packages.
Today I will install adept version.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my installation of Mint
Linux.
I just bought a Sony DCR-SR100 30gig camcorder.
I was hoping that maybe this time I'd experience that oft foretold
'Doesn't Work With Linux' syndrome.
Alas, no luck.
Plugged the bloody camera into my laptop.
And...............
The camera sensed that it was plugged into a computer and asked what
type of connection I wanted to establish. 'Pict-Bridge', 'DVD-Burn'
and 'HDD Mode' were the options given. I selected HDD mode on the
camera's LCD touchscreen.
And.......................
It showed up as on the laptop as DISK1
Bloody hell, wtf is going on here.
Why won't this stuff fail on me?
DAMN, DAMN, DAMN. How am I ever going to be prompted to go back to
Windows if Linux just keeps working.

Life Without Open Source?
,----[ Quote ]
| It's ironic that the effects of open source software on our economy are
| largely unmeasured and may be unmeasurable, but suffice to say the effects
| are enormous. Life without open source software would not only be quite a bit
| different, but many people would also be quite a bit less wealthy. The
| business of OSS is booming and will likely continue to drive the great
| expansion of the Internet and concomitant transformation of society.
