Acer now preloading Linux!

AMD 3600 / 512Mb RAM / 80 Gb SATA hd and dvd with Linux

135 pounds including VAT!

Fsck that!

The whole PC is cheaper than micoshaft OS!
And more power and faster and quieter because it comes with Linux.
Only Linux makes consumer choice possible for next generation
desktop OS.

Cutting Through the SELinux Hype

,----[ Quote ]
| SELinux began as a research project by the NSA (National Security
| Administration). The old model of reacting only to known threats has a
| glaring, obvious weakness: You're going to get beat up a lot. The idea behind
| SELinux is to protect a system from the unknown, and to close the door on
| zero-day exploits.

SELinux is good for *national* security, that's for sure.

Empowering the Linux Community

,----[ Quote ]
| From a Linux Developer point of view, when users are no longer developing
| with you...you’ve lost. Empowerment is key to a successful community in
| Linux. The day the community is no longer empowered to improve is the day
| the distribution dies. What kills empowerment? Helplessness. Despair.
| Inability.

Can you leave innovation to the customer?

,----[ Quote ]
| Open source innovation: how does it work?
|
| Ideas or problems are made freely available to anyone who can be bothered to
| look at them. They are then aired in online forums, meaning that glitches are
| ironed out in record time, and the forum creator charges to a manufacturer to
| develop the prototype and get the product onto the shelves.

Foundation update
Current state of affairs

,----[ Quote ]
| With help from Renat Lumpau (rl03), I spent some time this week talking to
| the Foundation's lawyers, collecting documents, and sifting through old
| e-mails. As I posted on gentoo-nfp a couple of days ago, the state of New

|
| What about drobbins' proposal?
|
| I'd like to push off until Monday any actual decision, so that the above
| discussion can happen first. I don't think drobbins will mind the delay,
| although he's not around right now for me to check first.

BBC: Death by a thousand top-slices

,----[ Quoet ]
| So it looks like the end of the unique, state-centric model for funding the

Mexico and Africa to become malware hotspots
