UBUNTU LINUX on Windows XP. how to run obsolete windows programs on ubuntu/debian LINUX

Author: erach27
Date: May 11, 2008 23:01

you can run obsolete windows programs on obsolete windows operating
systems by having the operating windows systems running on UBUNTU
LINUX.

UBUNTU LINUX (detects networking out of the box and uses Windows like
GNOME interface or use KUBUNTU LINUX for the intelligence demanding
KDE interface) can be run on Windows XP easily and SIMULTANEOUSLY to
take advantage of Microsoft Office by downloading virtual box for
windows from www.virtualbox.org

you should download

kubuntu_restricted_extras

when the kubuntu comes up, hit ESC gently every 5 seconds if the X
Windows server has frozen up.

Google Earth and SKYPE is both installable.

since virtual box is a DEBIAN pkg after downloading virtual box you
only have to do

sudo dpkg -i pkgname.deb

deb means the package name is debian.

sudo means run the package installer as super user.

My ubuntu linux (free, open-source) is easy to install and use

have you seen ubuntu / kubuntu linux.

www.kubuntu.com
www.ubuntu.com

Made by a south african billionaire who was the first tourist in OUTER
SPACE.

Installs networking out of the box.

I have installed Google Earth on it and Skype too.

And you have no problems with root on kubuntu linux
because the root comes much later.

The first user gets only "sudo" permissions
and you just say

sudo dpkg -i pkgname.deb (deb means it ends in debian)
for installing virtual box after downloading it.

On top of virtual box you run Windows XP which gives you Microsoft
Office and all the legacy programs.

"I have had Firefox freeze and must use force quit at least 10 to 15 times a
day. Mostly it seems to be sites running scrips that cause this, but almost
any time I have multiple pages open it freezes."

Linux freezes *when* USB device plugged in
------------------------------------------------
"I have a speedtouch usb wireless device. It used to work fine. It now
freezes my computer and I have no idea how to fix that. I have the right
drivers as it was working before. I tried to reinstall the driver again but
still freezes my computer."

"But I'm having a serious and clumsy issue with the touchpad.. don't know
why but I need to have a usb mouse plugged-in otherwise the system hangs."

FlickrFS for Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| Flickrfs is a virtual filesystem which mounts on your linux machine like any
| other partition. Once mounted, it retrieves information about your photos
| hosted on your flickr account, and shows them as files. You can now easily
| copy photos from your local machine to this mount, and it will automatically
| upload them to your flickr account. Similary, you can copy the files from
| your mount to your local machine, and it will download your images from
| flickr.
