I guess discussions of religion, ethics, and Unix linking is better than the
PL/I group that is currently discussing which characters could be punched and
reproduced on early IBM keypunch machines.

I'm thinking of starting a Cobol thread in one of the religious groups.

It could be worse. At least they haven't cross-posted, whch would attract a swarm of
fundies.

Where do you think that Mr Pearse came from? It is true that he is/was
a techie but he is definitely a man with an agenda (go see his web
site for evidence of that).

If you do start a Cobol thread on alt.fundamentalist.christians please
keep us informed on how it goes; jousting with Judson (sounds so
poetic) is becoming so tiresome.

My "green card" (actually it is yellow) has a column labelled "Card Code
EBCDIC". You could use the multipunch feature to punch any of the 256
character codes. However the print train would not print some of them. IIRC
I wanted to use a certain combination of PLI featues but the Various PLI
compiler options would not let me do what I wanted. Sorry I no longer
remember the features for certain, perhapd <, <=, >, >=, etc and AND, OR,
NOT?

I've got a yellow card and a yellow booklet, but most often use my
green card that still has a 15 cent price tag on it.

So, you use one of those new-fangled urine-colored cards, eh?

Passing fad.

Maybe what we need are posts that draw people in. For example, here's a post
I made on another group:

--- begin quote

Wednesday Night at Walmart

I'm prowling around the four or five very crowded holiday aisles at Walmart
to purchase a Valentine's day chocolate for the staff at my veterinarian's
office, when a fight breaks out.

Two mid-20's black women commence to scream at each other. I couldn't quite
make out the nature of their complaint since I don't speak emotion-laden
Nigerian-accented, Ebonics. I did catch the word "mutherfucker!" several
times inasmuch as it seemed to be used by each to describe every shortcoming
of the other.
